Read you scan, i honestly don't know why Michael is saddled with having to 'capture past glories'. None of his peers are lumbered with this, P, Madge, Janet, The Boss etc, none of them sell like they did

I'd just prefer a nicely delivered R&B album. Good vocals, not too many producers messing up the broth.

No matter what, I do not think this record will see the light of day. At least not before the next 3 greatest hits collections. He is a perfectionist, so much so that his recent work is dated by the time of release because it's been tweaked in the studio for years. Mike needs to learn to relax and stop trying to beat Thriller and maybe just focus on the music and the groove and less on the sales, and then he'd actually make a worthwhile record again. But we all know that won't be happening any time soon.
