LUMIDEE is over here in Germany, annually releasing horrbile tracks as a guest vocalist with young, naive German hip hoppers who apparently don't know that her 15 minutes was up in the States a while ago. Also, now that the the soccer WOLD CUP is looming overhead here, this week they released some uptempo remix of her and Fatman Scoop doing a heavily percussive, puseudo-salsa-influenced house version of Whitney's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" as one of the theme songs for the games....the only problem is, I've heard Lumidee sing before SO many times here, and there'sNOTHING you can do to convince me that SHE is actually the lead vocalist on this track wink

eek Wow. The way you worded that statement just makes her and those rappers seem so herb-ish square lol

And, by "psuedo-salsa-influenced" you must mean the Reggaeton fad. I actually don't know where that stands @ the mo'. Are people still making Reggaeton records? It's so last year in my opinion. It really burned out fast.

She had somewhat of a push behind her when she was out. She used to be an MTV darling with "Heard It All Before." But they really weren't receptive to her next single "Lunch Or Dinner," which kinda sucked because I liked that song more than her first single. Then she just vanished.

I never actually bought her album, was mainly referring to her imagery and the video for the "Black Butterfly" song. I just remember it looking very antithetical against a lot of the "love-you-down" R&B vids of the time. She just came out of leftfield with this really dark, morbid looking video.

Her debut I've gathered largely falls in "love" or "hate" status. If you love one track, you'll love it all -- vice versa. She covers Heatwave on one track and another song "Disco" was on the Rush Hour SDTK.

Ah, OK. I know NYC, LA and a few other cities even went ahead and made straight up "Reggaeton FM stations." I'm like, WOW, talk about jumping the gun. It took the rap genre about a good 5 or 6 years before it was regularly rotated on commercial radio.

She's still around. Last year she fronted the band CirKus and dropped an LP. Also, she's doing (or did) some tracks with Danger Mouse [Gnarls Barkley]. Plus, she's actually releasing something this year, if I'm not mistaken. http://www.nenehcherry.de usually has some kind of update.
