CLARKE DUKE PROJECT

Since George & Stanley are performing in my country this summer , i thought to post some credits .

1981

Their debut album .
2 slow songs on here which are my faves .
The classic ballad Sweet Baby is still performed these days by George and has ( imo ) stood it's test of time .
G & S deeply and truly believed in this song to be released as a single .
The record company didn't , so the 2 musicians decided to release it on their own at an independent label .
After it went fast up the charts , the company crawled back an took over the pressing-work of the single .
The other track i like is Never Judge A Cover By It's Book ... cool title too .

1983

The far most outstanding track i dig is Good Times .
Stanley's bass is sounding very deep and low on this joint .
And George fills it up with rich synth-chords , plus his classis falsetto-voice singing the lead .
( I can recommend for vinyl-collectors to buy this track on a US maxi-single .
The difference between most US & European maxi-pressings is very big .
From the US they sound richer and louder . Especially the 80's copies )

There appeared a videoclip from the single Heroes .
It's a private-eye kinda clip , co-starring Howard Hewett( Shalamar ).

1990

7 years later they reunited again and this album has lots of solid songs from which a few a review .

Oh Oh
Another track which George lately used as an opening for his shows .
As on much of George his work , a lot of great singers like Jeffrey Osborne , etc were joining this jam again .

No Place To Hide
An intersting collaboration of them with Rashaan Patterson and hiphop-crew Above The Law .
One of the first recordings i've noticed with Rashaan .
The track starts with a spoken intro from Above The Law accompanied by dramatic synthwork of George .
Once the beat starts , it really bumps hard and again a whole bunch of all-star vocalists in the background .
After the rap-break a blazin piano-solo of George follows .

Somebody Else
A good mid-tempo track with great vocalchants .
During the instrumental break there seems in the far background some kinda nasal-voice like Larry Blackmon/ Larry Dodson/ Sugarfoot .

Find Out Who You Are
Dramatically orchestrated build up slow-song with Stanley singing the lead .
With this one and also No Place To Hide they stated social matters and problems .

Mothership Connection
Their tribute to P-Funk .
And they did a good job !
Powerhouse drummer Dennis Chambers lifts it up to the sky ... blazin' intro .
This reminds me of the time that George was accompanied onstage by Dr.Funkenstein and Bootzilla ,
when Duke was hitting the 70's charts with Dukey Stick .

cool and i can hear Casey Kasem saying "And in at number one this weak a tune from the dynamic-duo Stanley Clarke and George Duke "Sweat Baby", so until next time "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars".

She was an original member of the George Duke Band .
I'm not at home right now to check if she did some guest-appearance on those albums , but as far as i remember , the last time she was on an original George Duke Band-album was with Festival ( 1979 )

Talk 2 me quick !
lol
When George released the bandreunion-track : Stand With Your Man in 1986 , one of the females in the song asked at one point : " But what about E ... E ... Sheila ? "
Which was responded with the silly dukey voice : "She was with the duke , but now she's with the prince "
