JOAN ARMATRADING

On the latest CD by Bettye lavette, she does a STELLAR remake of Joan's DOWN TO ZERO.I also remember my dad playing a song by Joan called "Flight Of The Wild Geese." But thats about all I remember of Joan. Anyone a fan of Joan Armatrading?

Yeah, me! No Love is my favourite song of hers. There would be no Tracy Chapman if not for Joan, but whereas Tracy's only done a handful of songs anyone cares about, Joan's got dozens of classics, acknowledged or otherwise.

I LOVE early Joan. I would definitely pick up Track Record, which is kind of a greatest hits, has Down to Zero and tons of other songs on it.

Me Myself I, To the Limit, and Walk Under Ladders are all worth buying too, IMO.

Joan is fantastic and thanks for starting a thread on her.

I absolutely adore her material from 1978-1986.

That album she did with Steve Lillywhite "The Key" was such a quality record. That's one of my favorite albums from that decade.

"Me Myself I" was a goregous album and "Secret Secrets" is so underappreciated. I'll get more into detail soon, but...

What are your favorite Joan albums and songs, everybody?

I've been trying to get my hands on "Track Record" for the longest.

I agree about all three of your choices. Man, "Me Myself I" had some incredibly rich tunes on it. "All The Way From America," "When You Kisses Me," "Turn off the Light" and "Simon."

Total shame that a bunch of best CDs seem to be out of print. At least some of Track Record is available on the newer best of, but that's definitely a superior comp.

The Key and Secret Secret are great, kind of the transition period before she went full-on Quiet Storm!

I know. Most of my Joan OOPs came from eBay. I was lucky enough to find The Key in one of those ancient long cardboard CD boxes -- basically brand new and unopened for only $25.00.

I've been meaning to pick up "Walk Under Ladders" since I really enjoy "I'm Lucky" and "Eat The Bear." I love diving into an artist album material in these cases.

My most played Joan tracks on my MP3 player...

1. Talking To The Wall (1985)
2. Turn Out The Light (1980)
3. Love My Baby (1983)
4. Everybody Gotta Know (1983)
5. The Game of Love (1983)
6. I'm Lucky (1981)
7. One Night (1985)
8. All The Way From America (1980)
9. What Do Boys Dream (1983)
10. Persona Grata (1985)

As you can see, I'm really feeling early to mid 80s Joan. nod smile

Also, I really dig how Steve Lillywhite collborated with Joan on the entire The Key sessions.

Love that track, it's a real "hidden" classic.

It's good, not my favorite or anything. But Down to Zero and Love & Affection are 2 of her best ever.
