Now that Prince has done AI has he made it possible for bigger stars to do the show, or is Prince just one of the older legends who's time has passed. Simply, Is Madonna too big for American Idol?

Never say never but i certainly hope not. I lost a little respect at Prince for going against his rant about AI and make an appearance. I would lose the same respect for Madonna who also spoke against the show and prohibits her songs from being performed on it.

I would rather her record tank than to have boosted sales from that show.

At the moment, yeah, I think Madonna is still too big for American Idol. Prince "had to do it", he is in that niche these days. But then again, Prince still has far much more leeway credibility-wise that he could do it and most likely come up with all kinds of positive results too. Madonna is far much more on the brink, so it wouldn't be the greatest move for her.

In today's market, if an artist/celebrity wants the widest one-shot exposure to the largest number of "potential customers", then an appearance on AI makes perfect sense. Attention-Whore "Valhalla" if you will.

Regardless of what a small number of holier-than-thou hipster types think.
You don't have to be a business/marketing major to figure that one out.

The reality is, it's the music BUSINESS folks whether you like it or not.

Ahhhh Madonna... let's see, didn't she make an appearance on Missy Elliot's talent search show? The thing is Madonna can't sing even half as well as some of the contestants on A.I., so it might be embarrassing for her. And she appears on MTV ever time she has the chance. Sooooo I guess MTV is more acceptable?????

I can't even believe that some of you would hold Prince up to Madonna. Oh please. Prince is a MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER, VOCALIST. I cannot even believe that some of you guys don't respect him for his talent. That really sucks.

I don't care if Madonna ever does A.I. She is not in any way shape or form as talented as Prince. Madonna is a music-video artist... that's it. Her music "electronica" is over-produced and over synthesized. And Madonna playing guitar is a JOKE.

That's really sad that some you on this forum would choose Madonna over Prince. That is so sad. Why don't you all go to the Madonna forums if Prince has disappointed you by his appearance on A.I.? She is so above A.I., I'm sure she won't disappoint you as Prince has. Well the truth is that Madonna doesn't have a lot to teach the A.I. contestants--except maybe in marketing. She could teach a business class. Except for her fluff shows... well Madonna is not much of a singer anyway. And she for sure isn't a musician. As a matter of fact, hasn't she had a lot of help in the songwriting and producing departments??

I cannnot even believe what I'm reading.

P.S. Madonna is even a wash as an actress. At least Prince has had some major success in the film industry--fleeting true but much more than Madonna has ever had. Sure, one day Prince might be a little like Stevie Wonder...just respected as a legend, but without any current hits. Apparently, he might even play Vegas sooner than we think. But what is Madonna going to do when she can't dance around in a leotard, humping her dancers and of course hanging herself on a cross??

And another thing, I don't really hate Madonna as much as I appear. I'm just sick and tired of people not calling her on shit. Oh yeah, she's too big for A.I. Well, what big to her fans?? And you all would actually put Madonna above Prince because he had the audacity to lower himself and play A.I. I'm amazed and very disappointed.

I can't believe what you're writing. This is not the "sell out" sticky on music and more, so calm down. All I'm asking is now that P has done AI, does it mean large veteran stars like Madonna will appear on the show. I don't see what's wrong in asking if Madonna would do it? would she be viewed as current star or former legend? If I told all of you last year Prince would do American Idol you would laugh me off the forum.

This is a Prince forum..even though this topic is in the non-music section. So I'll respond anyway I choose. Your question was innocent enough, I guess, but it just opened up the door for Prince to be indirectly criticized and dissed AGAIN. I'm a Prince fan, not a Madonna fan. So, I'm gonna defend the dude, not necessarily for appearing on A. I, but because I have always believed (and still do) that he is a GREAT talent. And his appearance on A.I. didn't change my opinion about that. In fact, it doesn't even relate to it.

For the record, I'm not even a fan of A.I. I just happened to see Prince that night because I had the television on. I was curious who would win. I've never voted. I could care less about that show except for curiosity. I don't even have a one of the winners cd's. It's just not what I'm into. So I'm not a crazed A.I. fan supporting the show or anything. I just support Prince.

Hit movies Madonna has been in Desperatly Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own, and Evita. Most critics say Morris Day was the break out of Purple Rain and Prince was just emoting not really acting.

I have written quite a bit about my specific gripes about Madonna... quite a bit. I'm not going to repeat myself. Sure Janet did Rhythm Nation, but then again Janet hasn't made some of the same comments Madge has made over the years which I've gone into detail to explain.

As far as Janet, well this thread isn't about Janet. But I will say this. I actually respect both Madonna and Janet in their respective genres. Janet's music appeals to me more because I enjoy R&B more than pop and Jan's music is closer to R&B to me. I'm going to say this: I also think that Jan has a better voice than Madonna. I'm just not a Madonna fan. What more can I say? And it's true that pop stars don't transition as well, BUT I think Jan could transition more easily than Madonna BECAUSE I'M A FAN OF JAN'S. I don't think that Jan has to rely upon gimmicks necessarily to promote her music. Some would say that she tried that once, and if failed miserably, sooooo Jan just doesn't need that.

That's all I'm going to say about Jan. What I've really noticed is that Madonna fans always bring up Janet to Jan fans in these threads. Well, a number of Janet fans DON'T LIKE MADONNA, and I'm one of them. I'll evem say this, as far as I'm concerned, Janet is superior to Madonna in the music-video genre. I've always preferred Jan over Madonna, so that's no surprise.

And finally, I've seen what some of you Madonna fans do to people who criticize Madge. It's like you start saying that their posts are tired or whatever. Well why aren't your post tired in defense of her? You all say the same thing over and over again anytime a person "attacks" Madonna?? Why are your comments less tired? Why am I "dumb" as someone just pm'd me because I don't like Madonna and say so? I've never called a Madonna fan dumb for supporting her?
I really don't get that at all.

I feel like I've been pretty specific in my criticism of Madonna on other threads of which I'm sure some of you have read. I have specific criticisms, not general "hate." And the truth is that I don't hate Madonna. Like I said, I'm just tired of people not holding her accountable, and when they try, Madonna somehow comes-off smelling like a rose or something.

Well, I'll refrain from commenting in the future. I like you all, and I sure don't want to cause any hard-feelings over some mega-rich music artist who could give a shit about what we think anyway. I'll just stick to...I don't know what. lol

All i was getting at was that if you're going to dish at Madonna for not being as great a musician as Prince than why not dish the same at your own icon as well. I just don't understand that logic. It just seems like an opportunity to bash Madonna as opposed to answering what the topic asked.
