A little trivia about Vanity...


***Vanity 6 appeared on "Soul Train" in late 1982,performing the songs "Nasty Girl" and "He's So Dull".The audience went crazy,especially the males...lol...but the between-song interview with host Don Cornelius was a little bizarre.When asked what role Prince played in the making of their album,Vanity lied and said "Prince was much too busy to work on our album".She also said that if anyone wants to reach them,just call "777-9311,that's our home phone number".

***I remember a magazine interview that was crazy! The interviewer came to Vanity's hotel room to interview her but she was busy watching a porno movie!! She was saying things like "Yeah,you go girl...go for it".The male writer tried to stay "focused" but was a little distracted,to say the least;)

***When Vanity split with Prince in the summer of 1983,she was soon seen with several Prince look-alikes (Micki Free of Shalamar,Andre Cymone).She has also been romantically linked with Eddie Murphy,Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue,John Stamos and an unknown named Robbie Bruce (the inspiration for the song "Strap On Robbie Baby"?).

***When Vanity left Prince,she was quoted as saying "I needed one person to love me,he needed more".Undoubtedly,she was referring to Prince's other girlfriends Jill Jones,Susan Moonsie,Sheila E.,and Susannah Melvoin...lol...

***In summer 1986,Vanity released a single called "Animals".The song sounds ALOT like Prince's "Let's Go Crazy".

I remember that song like Animals when we make love ,like animals we just can't get enough. I believe this was a reference to Prince and that KING KONG Gorilla Shit She was into. Remember that shit well.

Yes most definitely. There were a lot of stories about her. 1 that she was into witchcraft and she used to carry charms and things. Another that she slept with jesse johnson. And that Prince forced her to sleep with guys and forced her to wear those sexy clothes and act a certain way. Also that they had a volatile relationship. They fought a lot but then made passionate love. What do you think about these rumors?

I too have never heard him forcing her onto other men or women. But I have read in a Prince book that they had a volitle relationship, like one time while coming home from a movie they got into an huge arugment and Prince told her to get out of the car and walk home (during a thunderstorm LOL). It was a well know fact that they fought but they always made up...but I guess she couldn't take it anymore...him seeing other women, plus her drug problem which she hid from Prince contributed to the demise of their relationship. Hopefully we will get the 411 from Vanity/Denise when she releases her book this year (fingers crossed lol)

Yeah,I heard about the time they got into an argument and Prince made Vanity get out of the car.That incident is probably what inspired the 'Purple Rain' scene where Apollonia and Prince fight,then she throws an earring at him and walks home (wearing lingerie,no less).

I also have a pic of Vanity and Prince together at the 1985 AMAs wearing the same outfit (though Vanity ain't wearing a puffy shirt) but that captions says it Apollonia...idiot! It came from a book called Prince: The First Illustrated Biography by John W Duffy, page 38.

C'mon, DavidEye, have some fun! "Pretty Mess" is pure camp! It's so great because it IS so horrible! That pretty much summarizes the entire Purple "harem," minus a few real talents, like Sheila and... well, uh... Sheila!

"Pretty Mess" is one of the worst Vanity songs along with "Strap On Robbie" but I to think that maybe Vanity could have had a career worthy of Madonna's. Problem is that Madonna really changed her act and often. I don't know if Vanity could have done that. Well, she did but she went very drastic! She went from being a coke whore to a nun!

I think its a crime that someone hasn't released some sort of Vanity solo complotion of hits and really strong studio tracks! The record companies really drop the ball on stuff like this that is out of print and they never bring back! Maybe with Vanity, they have the excuse that she is so dead set against it that they won't be able to, but that doesn't explain something like "Apollonia 6" never being released (re-released) on CD! And they wonder why their loosing money. They just keep doing rereleaes for hugely popular records and get a few hardcores to buy those over. They need help!

If you could do a Vanity Best Of, what would be included on there. I don't know all of her stuff, but here are are few easy ones that I love.
