100 albums you should remove from your collection immediately!

Check this out:

Here is what they say about Emancipation:

#36 Prince - Emancipation
Quit buying every single Goddamned Prince release! Don't you know he fell off in like '89? You bought this 3-CD set because you thought that the sheer number of songs guaranteed a few keepers. You were wrong.

There's definitely some keepers on there. I don't think of it as one of his best albums, but there is some good material on there, even if I haven't played it for at least 2 years.

John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Eric Clapton also made this list. So I guess Prince is in good company.

I would've liked "Emancipation" in 2 CD's.
I think disc II is just too good to break up--and then with the first half of disc I, and parts of disc III===> 2 CD's, IMO.

You could compile a CD of the "worst" songs from Emancipation and still have an album better than 98% of the crap on sale and on the radio today.

Anybody who sings "A real woman/knows a real man/always comes first," and means it, needs a good pummeling. And we already have Prince to do the Prince songs for us. I'd choose the Artist over the Non-Artist any day.

I agree with 95% of this list. U2, REM, Radiohead -boring, pompous, ultra-rich a-holes. Who on earth listens to that shit? Still think 'Heaven or Las Vegas' is a masterpiece. Don't give a fuck what they say smile

touche...

Unless "Courtin' Time" was on there.

smile

I'll take a 3 CD set from him anytime he wants to put one out.

Interesting link though. I get a kick out people who consider themselves so fucking cool that they should decide for ME what goes in MY collection, like Jack Black's characer in "High Fidelity".

Who the hell is this dude and why do I care? I NEVER stock my collection with stuff other people tell me is "cool". If they had to pick it for me, it would never be "cool" anyhow.

What a pompous jackass, Prince comments aside. So what the fuck DOES this dude like?

Attention all "cool seekers": THERE IS NO SUCH THING! by the time you've realized it's cool, it probably aint, and just becuase the rest ofhe world found out about it, doesn't make it UNCOOL. Release it...

I really like Emancipation. Particularly 'Courtin' Time' from numero 1. Most of disc 2 and 3.

These kind of lists are probably designed by people who want to try to amuse other people with their 'wit' of criticising other peoples work. Unfortunatly, it works. Some people find it really funny. Personally, leaves me feeling a bit sad. It's someone elses creation. If music aint my bag, it aint my bag. It'll just be someone elses. What they're doing is just acting like a pack of hyeenas (sp?).

Even though I agree with some of the choices he's made as being overrated albums, I must say this critic seems like a total DICK. I mean, I think he is just dissing many albums for the sole purpose of elevating him self to a "true" music fan.

Kind of like the morons who will diss any movie that makes more than $5 million in the box office as sucking, for the mere reason that too many people have seen it, so one can't act like a movie snob for mentioning it.

In other words, it's not that many of the choices don't suck, it's that I think he's saying they suck for the wrong reasons.

Whatever.

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Emancipation, but I didn't think it was one of the 100 worst albums ever, far from it.

Another quick note, was he mentions Prince on Beck's midnite vultures CD, and said this about Alicia Keys' Songs in A Minor.

There is a school of criticism (more like a style of writing) wherein the technical often baffles the lay critic, so he elevates his writng style at the expense of work being reviewed. As mistermaxx points out, it gets one to talking motre about the writer.

Then again some of those things really do suck...

(No that's not a dig at fams! I'm keeping my EMANCIPATION I kinda like it too!)

I stand corrected, I just shot straight to the albums and didn't notice that the list was a collaboration of many people's thoughts, not just one guy's.

Well I feel sheepish.

Ok, I'm done now. Probably should of just read the whole thing before responding. Oh well, I've learned my lesson.

I second that.

I can't take Da Da Da or Mr. Happy, but those are the only 2 of 36 songs that I just don't like.

I couldn't agree more. This also stands for at least 95% of ths shit he's put out since Batman.

If I were Prince I'd be thankful for having a period such as '78 to '88 and pimp it for all its worth. Most big-name artists would kill for something like that.

C'mon People. Emancipation is a great journey through, not just Prince's feelings and ways of thinking about the world we live in and the love involved, but everyone's just the same. This set is good in the dead heat of summer or even in the coldest darkness of winter.
How is it that people come up with these so called educated opinions about a man (and his music) they don't even know? Listen to the three discs openly and honestly and you will swear that Prince wrote most of the songs just for you!
C'mon

I truly feel sorry for anyone who could call Radiohead boring. They show more creativity in one E.P. than most bands show in their whole career. As for being ultra-rich, I doubt that too. By the price of their last tour, I coulda seen them 4 times for what I'd pay to see Prince ONCE for One Nite Alone. At least they're 'doin the work' for their money...

Basically, it's a tongue-in-cheek article. I agree with the Prince point though.
