Going by your list, I would say start with Ready For The World. They had the most jams of the artists on your list. Andy is a four letter word.

I leave that up 2 U But i'll try to do some short reviews . LittleBLUECorvette said: Delle I think you meant The Deele This group included the talented writers duo LA. & Babyface . Their debut-album ( 1983 ) on Solar Records had solid tracks like Body Talk / Street Beat ( title track ) / Video Villain and Workin 9 to 5 In my memory there were about 3 or 4 more albums after that ( 1985 / 1987 / 1990 / ? ) My personal choice would still be their Street Beat debut Check these bodyrockers beneath doing some electro-poppin on the funk of Bodytalk : http://www.youtube.com/wa...he%20Deele http://www.youtube.com/wa...%20gold%20 _____ LittleBLUECorvette said: D-Train Okay , This group was with singer James Williams and keyboardist Hubert Eaves , III . They recorded what i call powerdisco-funk ... the grooves are awesome and infectious to dance to . Their track Keep On was talked about in a topic here on the org . Funny about that track is that James & Hubert were rejected by lots of recordlabels by hearing the Keep On-demo ... can you imagine that . After they got signed by Prelude Records and went high up the charts ... the other labels who rejected them were in total confuse and ate their hats out of frustration . So Keep On was from the 1982 debut-album . After that came the album Music(1983) from which the title-track became another anthem among the clubscene . That album opens with Keep Giving Me Love which throws you right into the groove . In 1984 he released the album Something's On Your Mind including powertracks I Treasure Your Pleasure and Hustle & Bustle Of The City . The titletrack was done a year later again by Miles Davis on his You're Under Arrest album . James Williams continued to release records as James "D-Train" Williams . These albums were Miracles Of The Heart (1986 ) and In Your Eyes ( 1988 ) . Kinda preppie sometimes but i liked some tracks of them : - Crush On You - Curiosity - Rocket 2 You ( produced by Bobby Nunn ) _____ LittleBLUECorvette said: Loose Ends Great group from the UK . Appeared in the big spotlights with their hit Hangin On A String , but released a year before a few other strong cuts like Dial 999 / Let's Rock and even before that a track which i can't recall right now but which has become a much sought collector's item . On the album from Hangin On A String are some fine ballads too , including the title-track So Where Are You and the classic The Sweetest Pain ( written in 1979 by Dexter Wansel ). After these albums there were some more strong albums ... i don't have them all but heard them at friends houses . Out of my head i can't tip you excactly with which one to start. http://www.soulwalking.co...0Ends.html _____ LittleBLUECorvette said: Ready for the World See Vainandy's tip and this thread : http://www.prince.org/msg/8/188317 _____ LittleBLUECorvette said: Surface This group started about 1983 with releasing Falling In Love and When Your Ex Wants You Back on Salsoul Records which were popular in the dance & clubscene from the 80's . These are also my faves , cause a few years after that they went even more popular with the song Happy including lead vocals by Bernard Jackson . I don't have any albums from this era unfortunately . http://www.soulwalking.co...rface.html _____ LittleBLUECorvette said: The System Start with this track and same album-title ( 1983 ) ... their biggest hit : http://www.youtube.com/wa...0system%20 I would suggest this 2 on 1 cd beneath next . Albums from 1984 and 1985 . Both albums are re-issued on cd recently by the Wounded Bird Company http://www.woundedbird.co...em/146.htm _____ LittleBLUECorvette said: Timex Social Club (Club Nouveau) Again , i have nothing from this group but there is a site from them : www.timexsocialclub.com . . . I like the Force MD's. Their song Tender Love was hot. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

It was after all the synth-ruled era . Prince used it , The Time , Vanity 6 ( listen 2 that synthlick just before the Nasty Girl chorus ) . If you're speaking in terms of soul like " classic soul " ... it was another time but there still was put soul in some of those jams . Especially D-Train has put some deep vocals in his work . That was not totally " cold " lifeless energy like you stated . . . . [Edited 5/13/06 2:29am]
