Deep Purple between the years 1969-1976 is the best rock band ever IMO.

Best songs:

1. This time around (Glenn Hughes and Jon Lord dedicates the sound of it to Stevie Wonder)

2. Child in time (classic)

3. Stormbringer (this song is just fantastic, Blackmore's best guitarworks ever)

4. Sail away (a bit more obscure DP-song but a real favourite)

5. Lazy (Jon Lord and Richie at their peak)

I see the pic up top is when the late, GREAT Tommy Bolin was in the band. Though theirs wasn't the classic lineup with the great Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes and Bolin brought more of a funk, r&b flavor to the band. Remember "Gettin' Tighter?".

I'm a big Bolin fan and I wish his tenure with the band could've been a more positive one. There's some recordings (via the Tommy Bolin website) of his rehearsals with Deep Purple. They definitely had some potential.

Of course, the Blackmore Purple is THE definitive Deep Purple lineup. He's another one of my faves, though I actually love Rainbow more than Purple. I saw him on a concert recently on tv - though he's still doing his minstrel thing, he can still burn on the strat...

I somehow caught that song on the radio a year or 2 ago - had to download immediately. It rocks!

I like the really old Deep Purple video footage where Blackmore just rails on the guitar - nobody really abused the whammy like he did lol

my band covered a spot of Woman From Tokyo a few years ago - the other bands admitted they were blown away!! razz
