Z Cult Faves/ "Red Hot Momma", "Alice In My Fantasies", & "Super Stupid" Man,...listen. Ya'll know that my love for Parliament/Funkadelic runs deep and this is ONE of the reasons why. These 3 songs just capture an element of these cats that truly speaks to my soul. Even when I was 8 years old, I UNDERSTOOD this....sound. It makes a cat see things that I may can't put into words. To say these songs have had a HUGE influence on me as a musician is a gross understatement. Man,...I just love this "side" from these cats. I adore it. Saying "Black Rock" is like saying grass is green, but this is the epitome of "Black Rock". If anyone ever ask u what is "Black Rock", PLEASE play them this and turn it up as loud as your speakers will allow! Who else loves these songs? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Uh oh..Gotta feelin' this is gonna be a loooong thread. Eddie's milestone. "G Cook" definetly threw down on this classic. One of my all time fave Funkadelic relics ("Standing On The Verge"). My old band used to play "Alice" and I always made sure I played Eddie's solo note for note. "Alice" and "Super Stupid" are heavy metal classics right up there with "Sweet Leaf" (Sabbath) and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" (Jimi)...Great thread Brutha B. Can't wait to read the other repsonses!

Yes, these are definitely the songs to use to disabuse people of the notion that black people don't do hard rock. Super Stupid and Alice in My fantasies are metal pure and simple, but much funkier than any metal released in the decade (with the possible exception of some songs by Deep Purple), or ever for that matter. Eddie Hazel gave birth to funk-metal while the red hot chili peppers were still a glint in the milkman's eye (and I suppose that milkman was G.C. himself anyway).

What can I say about these four classics (I'm including Standing on the Verge of Gettin' It On) that u fams haven't said? It's ashamed that more people don't know about the funk rock that was goin' down the same time Ozzy and the boys were gettin' it together. Growing up, I was more familiar with stuff like "Flashlight" and "Knee Deep", though my older cousins had those cool-ass parliament/funkadelic/Bootsy, et.al, albums with the cool covers and "p-funk speak". Radio didn't play much Funkadelic and I actually didn't get into Eddie and "Maggot Brain" until after I started playin' guitar myself. But I made up for lost time
On the subject of funk rock, what do you cats think of Stevie Salas? When he came out with his Stevie Salas Colorcode project, Guitar World did a story with him and talked about his George Clinton connection and how George got him started with producing 'n stuff. So, I guess he's a p-funker by association. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I love Red Hot Momma and Super Stupid but Alice In My Fantasies does it for me. Its completely fucked up in the best possible way. It sounds all over the place but at the same time it's so darn tight..and when that solo comes in. I think it's one of the best rock songs ever.

Man what can I say about this that hasn't been said. I'll quote Flea who once said something like "Funkadelic was heavier and deeper than anything Black Sabbath ever did" or something like that. It's not discounting Black Sabbath or anything cause they are legends in their own right but Funkadelic was really on a whole other level on so many different levels.
On topic, these cuts are among my top Funkadelic Songs. I would add Funky Dollar Bill, and some instrumental stuff off of Osmium/First Thangs as well. BTW, just got Free Your Mind... remasterd version and If ever a CD needed remastered that was it. It sounds incredible. Next on the remastered list is Standing in the Verge...Already have the old version of course. Does anyone know if thev've fixed I'll Stay? Original pressings of remastered CDs had an edited version of I'll Stay instead of 7 minute version which is why I've held back from getting it. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

So, I guess he's a p-funker by association. I too only heard Flashlight and AquaBoogie on the radio, BUT I was blessed with an older cousin and all of his friends who were way into their teens when I was 7 and 8 years old. I got hip to THIS sound through them. That opened the doors to my own discovery of all of the other stuff that was out there be it KISS, Sabbath, Zepp, Queen, etc. I got into all of those bands at the magical age of 8. I saw Stevie Salas at The Viper Room in a power trio situation and it was cool. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

This is the beauty that lies in P/Funk. NOBODY, including the beloved saving the world E,W & F could have pulled something like that off. These cats and George listened to everything and absorbed it. Fantasy is Reality is straight gospel but with that fucking beautiful guitar lead going through out the song, it takes it somewhere else. It ...transcends. I can go on a year breaking shit down, so I'll shut up. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

...it was funny to watch them go from this. To variations of this... ...almost overnight. He used to do the episode from What's Happenin' with Rerun and the Doobie's and the tape recorder. He would staight tape Funkadelic's live show, and go DIRECTLY to the studio and cut it for The Temps. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
