if you dont dig the music fine got it why feel the endless need to put down in the most base of terms the feelings and sensibilities of those who are gleeming appreciation from the war disc you are over nasty about your judgement you got issues go grab some tiss ues The album's crap, in my opinion, and I'm voicing my opinion. Just like you're voicing yours. No need to take it personally. It's only music, John. Our brain lobes get massaged in different ways and my serotonin glands don't secrete to Neil's latest. They clog up and my bile glands go into overdrive instead. My sour is your sweet. And vice versa. Guess you've heard Lou Reed's Take No Prisoners too. There are three sides to every story. Ok, I've changed my mind - Neil's new album is the best thing I've ever heard since that bootleg I've got of Coldplay doing Ukranian folk songs with Billy Bragg in the EMI lift. look all im sayin is isnt there a gentle way to say you dont like something whithout making those who do feel like shit? is all im askin Ah, c'mon man, don't take it that way, really. I don't want you to feel bad or not enjoy the album. On the contrary - I want you to like it and come back at me with why you do. Hell, I might even .... No, that would be pushing it. Look, I fucking hated Prairie Wind, but LWW is in a whole new universe of crap. Sorry. And I hate it that someone of Neil Young's prodigious talent is releasing a desperate, attention seeking piece of crap like this when he's not only capable of much better, BUT he's sitting on a pile of quite glorious unreleased songs. Look, go listen to something like Interstate, or hunt down Ordinary People, or the uncut Crime In The City, or any of those Bluenotes bootlegs from 1988 and tell me I'm not even a little right. [Edited 4/29/06 14:03pm] i dig ordinary people Ok, now ... compare that masterpiece with LWWAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! and you find the latter somewhat .... wanting, no? As in not even in the same league, as in 2000 leagues below his talent, as in A Piece of Crap. I mean, where is the guy who wrote that great poignant line about "the alcoholic people - stoppin' off for a drink on the way to work", or even the observational genius who tossed out that beautiful tender line from Unknown Legend: "I used to order just to watch her walk across the room". I know it's an angry album, but "Let's impeach the President" sounds like it was written by a sixteen year old gluesniffer sitting in his treehouse. There are three sides to every story. eminently false, that one, I'd say, though it depends on what your definition of bad is; I don't think he's ever recorded anything truly atrocious on the level of "Self-Portrait" or something like that. (and we'll have to leave MMM out of the conversation since terms like good or bad don't really apply to that one). Bad Lou: Mistrial Sally Can't Dance I kinda want to put Berlin here as well, but I do think that record works as long as you don't take it seriously and instead view it as a document of how far a man's head can disappear up his own bum. If you like the latest one, fine, but I think Boy George wrote more trenchant anti-war lyrics than are contained in LWWAAAARRRRGGGHHH! THE WAR SONG Culture Club War war is stupid And people are stupid And love means nothing In some strange quarters War war is stupid And people are stupid And I heard them banging On hearts and fingers People fill the world With narrow confidence Like a child at birth A man with no defence What's mine's my own I won't give it to you No matter what you say No matter what you do Now we're fighting In our hearts Fighting in the street Won't somebody help me? (repeat chorus) Man is far behind In the search for something new Like as Philistine We're burning witches too This world of fate Must be designed for you It matters what you say It matters what you do Now we're fighting In our hearts Fighting in the street Won't somebody help me? (chorus) After the bird has flown He walked ten thousand Miles back home You can't do that to me,no You can't do that to me [Edited 4/29/06 14:17pm] There are three sides to every story. put a cloud on my single mindeness The Neil I love sang this: "I got faith in the regular kind, hard workin' people, Patch-of-ground people." Not this: George Bush you're a nasty man, I'm really not your fan. I'm hanging with Michael Moore, Even though his films are poor. Dick Cheney you're not a nice man, You shot a lawyer bang bang bang, And what about that Donald Rumsfeld, Makes me so angry I come out in welts. Let's impeach the President, 'Cause he's a liar that's evident. Let's replace him with Saddam Hussein, Or someone with half a brain. How about Connie Rice, She's a woman so she must be nice. Repeat to fast fade. [Edited 4/29/06 14:36pm] There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently | |
