Jam Of The Day: "Numbers" by Kraftwerk

I love this jam. It's nothing but a killer funky ass beat and some words like "eech nee sun shee". It started out with the electronic voices, then the beat kicked in and jammed for a while. Then it went into some Chinese type music before it ended with only the electronic voices like it started. When this jam came on, you knew it was ass shakin' time!
Andy is a four letter word.

Strange. I love Kraftwerk very much, they are my favourite band , but I never could get into Numbers. I heard many people saying how great it was etc., but I never liked it. But Trans Europe Express, The Robots, Computer World are a fine trio of albums.

Has anyone heard news on their "catalogue"? The are going to rerelease their albums (remastering is finisched, even promos were given away), but the project is delayed...and delayed... and delayed.

Graycap23: well, their live sound is awesome, really. But it's difficult to make out which parts are really "live". And they do not move around - standing behind their laptops like ... static robots. Behind them, there usually is a big video wall these days.

Without a question. I think it's just fair to say that KW is one of the most influental groups of all time. (Although I hate Techno and that stuff, so I should hate them for paving the way...)

In the mid 70s, there were quite a couple of interesting bands coming from Germany, besides KW especially Can comes to mind (I'm not too enthusiastic about them), Cluster (not listened to yet), or Neu! (not listened to yet). I think both Cluster and Neu! can be considered as being electronic bands, but, other than KW in their prime, they also used real instruments, I think.

What I do like about them too, is that they totally stay away from media and all that stuff. Every once in an while there is an interview. On the downside, there were stupid (?) rumours about them praising certain aspects of german culture. I do not know anything about these. And: I would not care, I love the music.
Rammstein did a (terrible) cover of The Model some years ago (maybe in 98?).

I also like their newer stuff (Elektro-Kardiogramm for example).

@Graycap: no, not at all, sorry.

----

Some more trivia for KW fans.

It was Ralph (maybe Florian, not so sure yet), who had a terrible bycicle accident in the first half of the 80s. I think he nearly died and had some serioius injuries. They lost a lot of time because of this, and I believe lost their way somewhat.
Of course all their plans were in a mess. With every album up to Computerworld, they set new standards, and were, especially in the 70s, not only miles, but lighthears ahead.
When they released Electric Cafe in 1986(original title was Techno Pop, first release since the Tour de France EP), a project that had been delayed for some years, it became evident that they were not on the edge any more. Bands like Depeche Mode had learned a lot in the meanwhile.

big Kraftwerk fan in the house. and yes, 'Numbers' is one hell of a jam. Trans-Europe express, It's more fun to Compute, The Robots, Pocket Calculator, and my personal favorite "Radioaktivity"...those are all seriously sick tracks.

Had the pleasure of seeing Kraftwerk live (we were playing at the same festival), and it's awesome to see. Especially the bit where they disappear and are replaced behind the laptops with four robots!
