New Larry Levan compilation CD out next Tuesday (4/11)!

i was over at shinders bookstore (my fave lunchtime haunt) and flipping through a copy of the advocate...in their music section they had a little sidebar about an upcoming CD being put out by rhino pretty soon. sure enough:

http://www.rhino.com/stor...mber=73341

One of the truly legendary figures of contemporary dance music, the late, great Larry Levan revolutionized the DJ's art with his soulful and eclectic sets at New York's fabled Paradise Garage club. This two-disc collection gathers 22 tracks that document the Paradise Garage experience, including both Levan's remixes and tracks from his DJ sets.

tracklist:

Paradise - Change

Weekend (12” Extended Version) - Phreek

Clouds - Chaka Khan

Haven't You Heard - Patrice Rushen

We Got the Funk - (12” U.S. Re-edit Version) - Positive Force

Smack Dab In the Middle - Janice McClain

Bad For Me (12” version) - De Dee Bridgewater

Heartbeat (Club Version) - Taana Gardner

You Can't Hide (Your Love From Me) - David Joseph

Love Honey, Love Heartache (12” Vocal version) - Man Friday

Don't Make Me Wait (12” Extended version) - Peech Boys

Baby I'm Scared Of You - Womack & Womack

Lost In Music (Special 1984 Nile Rodgers Remix) - Sister Sledge

Why Leave Us Along (12” Long Version) - Five Special

Love Injection - Trussel

Can't Play Around (12” Vocal version) - Lace

Ain't No Mountain High Enough (The Garage Version) - Inner Life

It Should Have Been You (12” Vocal Version) - Gwen Guthrie

A Lover's Holiday (12” Version) - Change

Situation - Yaz

Once In a Lifetime - Talking Heads

Love Has Come Around (12” Version) - Donald Byrd & 125th Street, N.Y.C.

Larry had this incredible knack of doing a set that told a story.. like when he found out he was dying, he did a night at rhe Garage and did a Philly set that told his life story.he composed his set with the greatest of ease and never ever playlisted... Larry played from his heart and its the same way i play.

btw,it's on sale for $17.99 at Tower (which isn't bad for a 2-CD set)....but has anyone seen it on sale at a lower price elsewhere?

Calgary,Alberta doesn't have a Tower Records. I think Vancouver has one.

I'm wondering if the stores will bother to carry this title. confused

Nice compilation, but then again not really rare stuff if you're into this kind of 80's dance music.

as said before, the new TOM MOULTON compilation on souljazz rec is much more interesting, with lots of never before released mixes , like a 14 minute version of Eddie Kendricks "Keep On Truckin' " Yeeeeah!!!!
