Aw man, that was the jam!! I'd forgotten all about that song.

Some of the R&B stations have been playing the Pointer Sisters music this week but I haven't heard that one yet.

Ruth Pointer sang lead on "Automatic". She's the one with the deep voice.

She also sang lead on "Neutron Dance".

That's my favorite song of theirs. I agree with the person who said it was pure Minneapolis funk. Great jam.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

One of my favorite stores has this jam in their rotation. Whenever it comes on, I have to be careful not to make a fool of myself -- it's soooo easy to get caught up in that chorus. headbang

R.I.P., indeed, June!

Great song. For those of you in bands play this and 1999 back to back during the second half of a Corporate Party/Wedding and you'll get five gigs from each gig. People never get tired of those songs.

R.I.P June and God Bless her family and friends.

1st time I heard it was on Grand Theft Auto Vice City
dancing jig

The B-Side of that track "Nightline" was also given to Michael jackson to be included on Thriller but it was left off. His version is almost the same as the Pointers but more demo like

Man when DJ Premier rolled through town, he fucked everyone's head up first with some of the hardest rap tracks you ever heard, then into a set of "real music for real people" and he busted out Pointer Sisters "Automatic"! lol

Premier is in his late 30s so you know he loves some 80s music!

Because her voice is so deep, some listeners thought it was a man singing this song.I've heard people say that she sounds like Stevie Wonder on this track, lol.

I just heard this classic on the Sirius 80s channel (BTW, never used to hear this song anywhere else, even during those flashback weekends or special 80s syndicated shows on regular radio). The DJ then mentioned the death of June Pointer and how sad it was.
