Hip me to some Grace Jones

Alright. I'm in an music enlightenment stage right now, so I'm trying out new stuff I haven't tried before. Grace Jones came to mind after reading some threads around here.

I've gotten into Morrissey (finally) after listening to his latest, so go ahead and guide me into Grace!

Ooh, little darlin' if you're

Not sure if it's still available but definitely:

Private Life: The Compass Point Sessions (Island) 1998 - compilation

a double cd with all extended mixes, including the fantastic dub mixes of most of her 'nightclubbing' period with Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare.

You won't find the dub to Pull Up To The Bumper though, that one still is very rare to find... lucky me

cool

as mentioned, the compass point sessions CD is an excellent start. forget all the other grace jones "best of" collections. this one is WHERE IT'S AT.

if you want more, i'd suggest these albums:

warm leatherette
nightclubbing
slave to the rhythm (it's a bit arty, but fun)

and

living my life (though it's WAY out of print on CD, so good luck finding it)

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Especially Anx coming through with the Compass Point Sessions suggestion, since I downloaded a few of those tracks and I'm loving it. I'm really digging "Demolition Man" right now. I'm looking at Grace in a different light from now on.

The 12" b-side of " Slave 2 The Rhythm " . An instrumental track .
Trevor Horn is all over this track and the bass is just massive in here .

Another instrumental track from the " Slave 2 .. "-album called " Don't Cry-It's Only The Rhythm ".
Miles Davis used this track when he entered the stage .
If you're going to listen to it , put a comfortable chair in the best possible position for surround-effect ... the rest speaks for itself .

N-joy !

no. i like that album a lot, too. i think she started falling off with this album, but it was still consistent with lots of good songs.

I think that's an OK album.

What about "Bulletproof Heart?"
I have it on vinyl, but I've never bothered to listen to it.
Is it any good??

i've heard a few songs from it but i don't like anything i've heard. tries too hard. too housey for my taste. i think she fell off with that album.

You're not the only one. Inside Story is a big fave of mine, I had it on cassette and have been looking to get it on cd.

I had the Bulletproof Heart cd when it released but eventually sold it to a used cds store. "Love On Top of Love" (including the house remix) was the only song I cared for.

Yeah, that house mix by C+C Music Factory was killer.

Mmmmm...I won't go so far as to say it 'sucks.' It's definitely weaker than her preceeding albums, but "I'm Not Perfect" was a jam!
