Neil Young plans an album against George Bush He is country rock's biggest icon, and he is angry. Recorded in secret, his forthcoming album savages the war in Iraq. One track says it all: 'Impeach the President'

You have to love Neil's sense of urgency about this album. This news, with my belly still full from PJ's SNL performance of World Wide Suicide, has me hoping for a 'Summer of Angst'. "I got the devil in me, girl." - 'John the Baptist', Afghan Whigs

I look forward to this. I bought into the hype of the "3rd Harvest" aka "Paraire Wind" and frankly, he needs a muse, even if it's that asshole. Hopefully he'll have better song titles than "Impeach the President", though.

"Sense of urgency"? Hardly. Everyone's against the war these days. It's bolting the stable door after the horse has fucked off to join the jihad. Steve Earle, The Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen all made strong anti-war songs and statements when it counted, not when it's hip to kick Bush. And what kind of stupid title is "Impeach The President"? I predict Neil's trenchant lyrics will go something like this: "War war is stupid and people are stupid And love means nothin in some strange quarters". Neil Young is and always has been Bob Dylan for people with limited vocabulary. [Edited 4/19/06 9:34am] There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. The album will only be relevant for another 2 years, till the dipshit is done with his presidency. I can't imagine wanting to listen to tracks like these after Bush's presidency is over. It's bad enough living through it now, won't want to relive it after the fact.

I disagree. Protest music remains powerful years after the issues they are singing about have been resolved. For example - "Russians" by Sting. All the great anti-nuke songs of the 80's, like "Red Skies" by the Fixx, "New Years Day" by U2 and "99 Luftballoons" by Nena. And then there are the great anti-Vietnam songs, and things like "Ohio" by Neil Young that still resonate. People will look back at this era in 20 years and listen to Neil's album, among many other things that have come out against Bush and the war in the last couple years, and it will really capture this time for them.

I'm a little dissapointed that something like this is coming so late, however, it might be good to release an album that basically sums up what an asshole he has been. The rise to glory and the fall! Could be great and inspired. Again, his last album had it's moments but not his best writing.

The heated Young v Dylan debate. Will their mutual adherents ever learn to live in harmony? I'm excited about this because it reeks of Neil on a roll...the quick writing and recording, announcing a new album when he's still promoting the last one. There's just no quit in this guy. I mean, he had a brain aneurism a few years back...doesn't that make Prarie Wind forgivable? "I got the devil in me, girl." - 'John the Baptist', Afghan Whigs

Hmm, I'm not crazy about either but I like Dylan's lyrics better. Every once in awhile I hear a great song by him, like "Things Have Changed" from Wonder Boys. Neil is one of those guys who I appreciate for what they do and their style. I'm glad he's out there, but I don't really listen to him.

i love Dylan and Neil both; they are both geniuses in their way, and are very very very very very different. I don't really get the comparisons at all.
