Save the best for last?

Is it better for an artist (or a band) to commence a gig or a studio album with strongest cut in the set or save it as the one final piece? Which one will leave a better impression on the audience afterwards: to attempt to impress them as soon as possible so that they're more open for the rest of the material - or wait for the finale and walk out as a king?
