Babyface sues Anita Baker for $250,000

Babyface sues Anita Baker over royalities

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES--Grammy-winning singer-producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds has filed a breach of contract suit against singer Anita Baker. He claims she owes him more than $250,000.The lawsuit filed Thursday in Superior Court in California says Baker broke two oral agreements with Edmunds. He co-wrote,produced and performed on the song "Like You Used To" on Baker's 2004 album 'My Everything'.The lawsuit claims Baker refused to pay Edmunds' producer royalties equaling at least $100,000 from an estimate of more than 500,000 albums sold.

interesting trivia: in 1992,Babyface wanted Anita Baker to sing the song "Love Shoulda Brought You Home",but for some reason, she declined. He gave it to Toni Braxton instead.

As for this lawsuit....did Anita even make $250,000 from that album? I don't know if her album was really successful, was it? confuse

I read the article mentioning that these projects usually just start with oral agreements, and the contracts are written up after the work is done. confused Seems like a stupid way to run a business! Why would you want to leave these things to chance? "Oral agreement"??? How's that going to stand up in any court?
