No. 1 Everybody (1982) [classic, classic tune]
2. Lucky Star (1983) 3. Into The Groove (1986) 4. Who's That Girl (1987) 5. La Isla Bonita (1986) 6. Burning Up (1983) 7. Open Your Heart (1986) 8. Angel (1984) 9. Stay (1981) 10. Deeper And Deeper (1993) Honourable mention: Dress You Up (1984), Sorry (2005) [great song, but it needs to be out longer than a year for me to justify putting it on the list, it would rank higher than "Angel" if it did]

what, no one else considers "Mer Girl" one of her top 3
best songs ever? i remember when i first heard it. i was on my way to a friend on my bicycle at 23:00 or something, it was dark and chilly, i was driving through deserted countryside. had the album on a tape (those being the last days of the walkman) and had been listening to it on and off, but had never reached the end of the tape yet cause i kept rewinding songs lol. so anyway, here i am, just cycling slowly, there's the dark sky with the almost full moon, shining over trees and outstretched undergrowth and on comes this song... i had to stop just sat there on the saddle of my bicycle and my eyes staring at nothing, trying to focus as hard as i could on every single sound in the song. it floored me. it was just something i never would have expected from her. it was so overwhelmingly different from her other material and it felt so honest and real. i listened to it about 3 times on that empty road there and then went on to my friends, dead excited to make m listen to the song. fcuz, when they put the tape in the deck and listened to it, the verdict was "What kinda lame crap is this? is the song gonna start or what?". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I can see this. I really like the less Madonna-esque songs. The ones that you're surprised by. Every once in a while, in the lyrics she says really surprising things too... I love it when she takes these kinds of risks and then all the Madonna fans can say, "Oh, this is lame..."

Very underated single, even if it did go to number one. Much like "This Used To Be..." it's one of her number ones that she tends to ignore, thus so does the public.

She rarely does covers but when she does....Well, I'm not a huge fan of that song. And let's take a look back at "American Pie", "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" and "Imagine"...Not her best. Madonna really needs to stick to her songs IMHO.
