Oran Juice Jones

I know you guys remember this dude and his one hit song "the rain". This was the jam back in the 80's. I recently saw the video for this about 2 weeks ago for the first time in about 15 years. Did any of you have his album? Was it good? Where is he now?

He has one other song I like alot called "Curiosity".

Oran Juice Jones had a follow-up album called GTO (Gangstas Takin Over).

Russell Simmons was always trying to promote R&B acts on Def Jam, but it was the harder rap/rock stuff that Rick Rubin produced that took off.

Last I heard... Oran had a song on the Nothing To Lose soundtrack ten years ago.

Vincent Bell and Russell Simmons produced 'im. Like I said, all the R&B stuff on Def Jam was Russell's thing.

Come on in here
Got some hot chocolate on the stove waiting for you

Listen first things first let me hang up the coat
Yeah how was your day today
Did you miss me?
You did? Yeah? I missed you too

You know what you gotta do?
"You gotta get on outta here with that alley-cat-coat-wearing,
punch-bucket-shoe-wearing crumbcake I saw you with.
'Cause you dismissed!
That's right, Silly rabbit, tricks are made for kids,
don't you know that?
You without me is like corn-flakes without the milk!
This is my world.
You're just a squirrel trying to get a nut!
Now get on outta here! Scat!
Don't touch that coat...."

I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back.
I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish.
And I am

" I gave you silk suits, blue diamonds and gucci handbags.
I gave you things you couldn't even pronounce!"

I have this theory that no one agrees with...that this song is somehow related to this old school song about "The Rain" but right now I can't remember the actual title.

I have his debut album on vinyl.Released in the summer of '86

I haven't played this album in awhile, but from what I recall,it's mostly ballads....a very laid-back,mellow vibe. The highlight,of course,is the first song "The Rain",one of the best R&B songs from that year. There's a decent remake of the old Moments classic "Not On The Outside",and another cool slow jam "You Can't Hide From Love".The uptempo numbers are okay, but not nearly as powerful as "The Rain"."Curiosity" was released as the second single, but they should have released the superior "1-2-1",a great song with a strong, infectious hook.

I remember hearing a radio interview with him (when that LP came out) and he said: "When you see me, you're going to see a REAL man. No curls, no high heel boots, no makeup, just a real man"....and you can probably guess who was the 1st guy that came to my mind when I heard that. (lol)

Dude thought he was it! He and that chick look like a couple of busters.
Pic looks like it was taken after a long night of drinkin' at the club followed by breakfast at Waffle House.

I think musically (and lyrically) this old song influenced Oran Juice's song.
