80s pop/dance song of the day: "Breakdance" by Irene Cara (1984)

I noticed that there is a thread devoted to Giorgio Moroder, and so I was thinking of songs that he produced.I thought of Irene Cara's album, released in 1983 and produced by Moroder.Who remembers the cool single "Breakdance"? A fun little single that came and went, but I like it alot.

"Breakdance"
(written by Irene Cara and Giorgio Moroder)

Well, what's' this new feeling coming out of the streets?
everybody's talking about it wherever they meet
Down by the corner,I keep getting the heat
then my feet starts moving to the rhythmic beat

(chorus)
Breakdancin'....breakout
Breakdancin'....breakout

They used to do the locomotion
do the jerk,and the twist
but there just ain't never been nothin' like this
Now poppin' and lockin' is a new way of talkin'
things will work out for sure, spinnin' round on the floor

(chorus)
Breakdancin'...breakout
Breakdancin'...breakout

hearts are pumpin',beat is thumpin'
love the way you're lookin' tonight
fever's rising,no surprises
we won't have the time to fight

(chorus)
Breakdancin'...breakout
Breakdancin'...breakout
Breakdancin'...breakout
Breakdancin'...breakout

Oh I love this one. I was disappointed with the Extended mix though because it's practically all instrumental.

My favorite is the 12 Inch dub version.
Andy is a four letter word.

I wonder whatever happened to Irene Cara? She's one talented lady.I thought her career would last longer, but I didn't hear or see anything from her after the 1984 movie "D.C. Cab" lol

who remembers that film?

Yep, it was a fun song. It sounded really cool on our home stereo too, would make the speakers thump. I have the 45 for this buried away in my closet somewhere.

One of those "where are they now" type shows, I think it was on VH1, caught up with her briefly, and they mentioned she had some psychological problems or something like that, and got fed up with the business.
