2006 is shaping up to be a good year in music!

The year is only a quarter over, but there are already quite a few solid, solid releases in my estimation.

I've LOVED these so far:

The Strokes- First Impressions of Earth
Prince- 3121
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Show Your Bones
Morrissey- Ringleader of the Tormentors
Goldfrapp- Supernature (if it counts as it was released in Europe in '05)

Plus, Roxy Music is coming back this year, and I'm anticipating new releases this year by the following:

!!!
Annie
Arcade Fire
Busta Rhymes
The Cure
Death from Above 1979
India.Arie
Janet Jackson
LCD Soundsystem
Modest Mouse
OutKast
Peaches
Pet Shop Boys
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Roxy Music
Wolf Parade
Xiu Xiu

Damn, Moonbeam, it's been a minute.

In the last several weeks, we've had these releases:

Prince
Donald Fagen
Ghostface Killah
Van Hunt
Josh Rouse

And with Amel Larrieux and others on the way, we'll hear from some outstanding artists across the musical spectrum in 2006.

I hope Annie Lennox can get something together this year. Same for Bowie.

U2 and New Order are supposed to drop too.

MOONBEAM, YOU ARE SOOO RIGHT.

I was just going to make a thread similiar to this one last week because I notice that I'm starting to really stretch my wallet because I'm buying so much GREAT music and we're barely out of the First Quarter.

So far, I've LOVED...

Kudu :: Death of the Party Currently *THIS* is my album of the year so far and one of my favorite discoveries of 2006!! Immediate standout[!!!] I've been waiting for an album like this. They're in the same company of post-punk dance revival acts like LCD Soundsystem but they have a "not disco" sound of smart lyrics, pop and style. Some would say they are a like a black Goldfrapp (since it's a man/woman duo with a stylish, façonnable electronic vibe) but they are 10x cooler, funkier and grittier than G.frapp! True, G.frapp does rousing early 80s-infused tunes, but Kudu is not mired by that era! Also, if you love Annie or M.I.A. in any way you will LOVE this. Trust me. There's playful traces of Salt-N-Pepa in one track and even an indie electro love ode to a certain bulletholed rap star :wink:. I've been playing the sh*t out of this album since I've bought it and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. I want to see them live later this year. [ Kudu's website ]
Infadels :: We Are Not The Infadels
The Knife :: Silent Shout
Goldfrapp :: Supernature
Mylo :: Destroy Rock & Roll
Morningwood :: Morningwood
Cyantific :: Ghetto Blaster
Jonas Brothers :: It's About Time
Fefe Dobson :: Sunday Love
P!nk :: I'm Not Dead
Junior Senior :: Hey Hey My My Yo Yo

Plus, I'm awaiting the release of these albums

The Presets :: Beams (April 18!) (Another of my favorite discoveries of 2006! This album was out last year in Australia and is coming Stateside this month. I heard the preview tracks from it, and this sh*t is crazy... you all won't know what to do with this! Not containable in any sense!)
Amel Larrieux (April 25)
The Ark :: State of the Ark (April) [saw them live last month! Loved it]
Annie (she's working with Richard X again cloud9 plus I want to see what she cooks up with the other producers on this one!)
Nelly Furtado :: Loose (May)
Kelis :: Kelis Was Here (June) [Raphael Saadiq is collaborating again!]
Tori Fixx :: Chocolate (Summer '06) OMG I can't WAIT to hear where he's taking us now.
Janet (September)
Les Rythmes Digitales
Jamelia
Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Summer)
Scissor Sisters (Summer/Early Fall)
Brooke Valentine
Kenna :: Face
Res
Zoot Woman
etc.

Not to mention the tours, festivals and live shows!

Has ALREADY shaped up to be a superb music year clapping THANK G*D FOR ALL THIS GREAT NEW MUSIC!!!

Where is this available? I trust your taste and I love me some Annie.

The Knife :: Silent Shout

I want this one pretty badly too.

Annie (she's working with Richard X again cloud9 plus I want to see what she cooks up with the other producers on this one!)

I met with her in Washington DC a week and a half ago and she's in the studio right now in NYC! She's already recorded about 3 tracks! I gave her a copy of 3121 and she wrote me on her forum telling me that she was super inspired by it!

Do you have any info on when/if her next album will come out? I've been EAGERLY awaiting her follow-up for a long time now!

It's on the indie lable Nublu (where acts like Brazilian Girls and Wax Poetic got their start. I live in L.A., but even I had to go to an indie music store to get it. The corporates may or may not have it. But it's available at the Nublu site here and the iTunes Music Store. I recommend getting the CD because I love how the physical disc looks. It reminds me of the mascara'd visual in Prince's "When Doves Cry"... but with fangs!

That is AWESOME[!!!] Wowww, you have some rapport with Annie! I was happy that she responded to me on her official site (you may've seen my posting smile ) asking her to come back to L.A. Whenever she comes back in town I'm definitely running to the show since I loved the s**t out of Anniemal and her DJ-Kicks comp!!!

I don't have a concrete date. I heard February, but that came and went. Apparently she's still with MCA records (her site http://www.resmusic.com still has active updates on live shows around the country) She's done a lot of live acts in L.A. And she toured with Talib Kweli late last year. She's been performing several songs from her new disc (one entitled "Pretender") and they follow in the sci-fi/new wave R&B vibe of her debut... Whatever info I do get though, I will def. pass it on to you!

RCA = MCA, edit.

OOOOOH, you best to get this album. Electronic heavennnn. They went darker this time out, but the album is so DOPE. I love the vibe it creates. You may have trouble finding it at most corporates (since there is no offical domestic release planned) plus they sell this for $22-$30.00 at a retail store because of how rare it is. But if you want to be smart like me get it from http://www.cd-wow.com it's only GBP £8.57 which is $15.80 US (plus shipping is free) smile

Prince - 3121
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale

Cat Power - The Greatest
The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth
Junior Senior - Hey Hey My My Yo Yo

I guess I had better get busy listening to a few of these tonight.

The new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album is more of a conventional rock record--not as frenetic as 'Fever To Tell'. It's kind of like comparing The Distillers' 'Coral Fang' to their older punk recordings.

It's pretty solid! T.I. brings it on quite a few levels. I really got a kick out of hearing him sample Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman" in one of his tracks. I thought I was hearing things, at first. Nope! I was humming "La da dee, la da da" to the beat.

You'd probably enjoy it.
