Listening to For You you don't get a sense of a unique musical vision as you do with Shuggie's record. For that, Shuggie gets the nod.
But as paligap noted however, you should take into consideration that Shuggie was now 4 records into his thing where Prince was just coming out of the gate. For traditional Pop/Soul song craftmanship, i'd give it to Prince even as a newbie. So for me it's a toss up. It all depends on what you're looking for. And before the politician comments start flying, yes it's a Henry Kissinger type response. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Just to add to Anx's good suggestion that you check into Todd, since Rhino has at least 3 comps available, you might consider the 2-disc Anthology (1968 - 1985). With an artist with a large catalog like Todd, you generally don't get a deep perspective on their creative growth over time with a comp. I'm really tempted to suggest you start with The Nazz and slowly work your way forward. Plus you'll get the original (and less produced) version of Hello It's Me. Fast forwarding into the future a bit, Nearly Human has been holding my attention lately. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
