She may be a talentless hag but she set two new records

Madonna Sets Two World Records!

Madonna's 'Confessions On A Dance Floor' set a new world record by going to No. 1 in a total of 40 countries, the most ever for an album. The worldwide sales now sit at 7.4 million for 'Confessions'. The lead single 'Hung Up' also sets a record for going to No. 1. It hit the top spot in 41 countries. 'Hung Up' has become one of Madonna’s best selling singles ever with a total sales of 4.7 million from digital, ringtones and single sales.

7.4 million is great at this stage! It will pass 10 million by the end of the year, I'll bet.

I must say I'm impressed, as always.

But to bring balance to this arguement, no one ever said Madonna wasn't popular. I've always respected her career. She's a clever and knowledgeable artist. She has an open ear. She's good at picking producers and songs. She has a talent for the visual that's probably unmatched by anyone in popular music (Bjork possibly being the exception). I love her whole concept of themes, presentation and reinvention.

BUT she still can't carry much of a tune, is a fair dancer and is a mediocre lyricist, things you wouldn't expect from such a popular artist with such staying power. Her acting is inconsequential to this subject but since she's tried so hard I must say, she's a terrible actress too.

this is what makes it all the more impressive. she really has mediocre talent in everything she does. she's never been a great dancer - especially for someone who studied dance for as long as she. she's never been much of a singer though during the evita era, when she was taking voice lessons, she improved a bit.

it all goes to show that she has mastered the art of business. she really is the music industry's martha stewart or donald trump. she's the wolf in sheep's clothing, lol!

Why does every measure of success Madonna achieves have to come with a caveat?

I'm impressed. But given this performance, how is it that I'm just not being Madonnafied like I used to be? Am I just getting old and missing her all over TV and radio like she used to be? Or is her success coming via some other means to which I'm not privy -- maybe club play? FEROCIOUS word of mouth?

LL Cool J recently spoke about Madonna, and I think he says it best:

"Madonna has been a strong influence on me in alot of ways.I've always admired the way she's handled her career. They counted her out,and she's caught up right now. There's a very 'what-have-you-done-for-me-lately' mentality in the music business. But art and the music business are two different things and you can never count out a great artist".

I think her music is much more interesting than her (rather conventional) personal life.

It's amazing how many times people have counted her out.I remember after 'Erotica' and the 'Sex' book, people were saying she was finished. But then she bounced back with her biggest hit single ever ("Take A Bow"),and then 'Evita' and 'Ray Of Light'.It's fun watching her bounce back again and again, much to the dismay of her detractors, lol.

All of my predictions are coming true, lol.

***I predicted that the CD would be platinum in the US by Christmas, and it was.
***I predicted that the total worldwide sales would be around 8-10 million copies, and now that seems very likely.
***I still predict that the CD will reach double-platinum status in the US (ala 'Music'),and it seems on track to do this.

I've always admired Madonna for being sooooo ordinary yet so successful; she's the original Spice Girl. She gives hope to all those people out there with minimum talent. lol

Cool.I doubt that 'COADF' will reach three million in the States, even though it's better than both of those albums, imo.

Agreed. In this day and age, though, I think Confessions is doing quite well.
