Jackson

A Person could Play and Instrument, if they tried. Yet if they don't try, the instrument can not play itself.

Except for the second one playing drums, he doesn't appear to be playing any of those.

I've got no doubt a guy like Mike can noodle on a couple instruments, he's been in music his whole life. But if he played piano better than Prince (what a strange conclusion to come to considering there doesn't seem to be any clips of him ever playing piano), don't you think we'd see it sometimes?

It's not like he ever holds back.

Exactly. It seems Mike learned from his brothers the basics of those instruments a little when he was a kid. He can't really play them good or he would in concerts, etc. Prince, of course, can really play those instruments! Even Eric Clapton is a fan.

Cool, I might beat the diminutive rocker!

Seriously, it doesn't matter how many pictures, lists, adjectives, personal experiences, etc people post, they're not going to convince anyone.

But Prince IS better

Off The Wall is such a phenomenonally good album. But it was all downhill from there. I don't think Thriller is as good as Off The Wall as an overall album. But anyway, those two albums together are the pinnacle of MJ's musical achievements. And he only wrote maybe 7 or 8 songs from them both. Bad was a pile of crap. The first half of Dangerous is awful, although the second half does get better. HIStory was ambitious and while I think there are some fantastic songs on there, it doesn't work as an album - and I'd guess that MJ knew that a lot of the material on HIStory was weak and that's why he bundled a greatest hits with it. Since then, MJ has done nothing. And don't talk about BOTD or Invincible. They both came and went without anyone even noticing. So since the release of Off The Wall in 1979, MJ released one more strong album followed by three lame efforts that followed the same blueprint for an album over and over again. Since 1995, he has pretty much done nothing but release greatest hits package after greatest hits package. And if you take Dangerous up until the present day, there are maybe twenty songs that are worth mentioning. Twenty over fifteen years? That's pathetic.

Now onto Prince. When MJ was writing DSTYGE, Prince was writing, composing, producing and performing entire albums by himself. And those albums are critically acclaimed, and absolutely brilliant. When MJ was releasing Bad, something made out of MIDI and other shoddy production techniques with poor songwriting to match (Just Good Friends?), Prince was releasing Sign O' The Times. An album that skipped form one genre to another masterfully and effortlessly, and where the lyrical content was jaw-dropping, and which still sounds timeless. Bad, on the other hand, sounds sooo dated now.

And that's before we get to the point that over the course of the eighties, MJ released only Thriller and Bad. In comparison, Prince released 1999, PR, Parade, ATWIAD, Sign O' The Times. And at least three of those are considered masterpieces.

Fair enough, Prince's nineties' output was contentious. But then he did release massed of material and when you wade through it all there are still so many examples of musical genius and brilliant, brilliant songs. You could take just the Gold Experience and Emancipation, and once you pick the best songs from both and do the same with MJ's nineties output. Prince trumps MJ by a mile, and that's before you consider Love Symbol, Diamonds and Pearls, Rave, etc.

As live performers, Prince again beats MJ. MJ does the same crotch-grabbing, moonwalking stuff over and over again. He's been performing Billie Jean the exact same way over and over again since the early eighties. No improvisation, no attempt to experiment or anything. Prince mixes things up all the time. He jams, he improvises and when he's on stage the audience witnesses nothing but raw talent and musicianship. Look at the performances at SNL or the Brits. All Prince needed for an awe-inspiring performance was a microphone and a guitar. And it was 100% live. MJ needs backing dancers, fireworks and all sorts of other crap. Add to that the fact that most of his performances are mimed.

So, all in all, Prince beats the crap out of MJ. The volume of his material is amazing. His sognwriting skills are phenomenal. His musicianship is unrivalled. And as a live performer he's been consistently awesome. MJ is the most over-hyped pop star in history. Prince is an artist. Period.

Prince 10/10
MJ 3/10

Wrong, The young men were Alfonso Ribeiro and Ricky Schroder. check their birthdates to see how old they would have been in 1988. He didn't meet Mac til 1990. A 7 year old non-famous Mac was not in his trailer, of course facts really don't matter when discussing MJ.

so the fact that it was Ricky Schroeder and Alfonso Ribeiro is important? The important information here was that a beautiful young lady was waiting outside of his trailer who had perky breasts and a warm wet pussy, and yet MJ decides to spend his time with pre-adolescent BOYS. Yes there was information to refute...too bad that information wasn't important in relation to the point I was trying to make.

After all the information that came out with the trail last year, I no longer believe Michael Jackson is a pedophile, homosexual child molester. Police seached his house. There was no kiddie porn, not even gay porn, on his computer or in his house. He had straight porn. If he's really sexually attracted to little boys he would have kiddie porn on his comp, like they found on Gerry Glitter's PC. He would be addicted to child porn. There's been tons of little boys that have been at Neverland in the 80's and 90's. A child molester can't resist there urges. And Mike is a very rich and famous guy. There would be tons of little boys saying "Michael Jackson touched my wiener." etc. like all the catholic boys that have been molested by priests. Mike seems to want to be a little boy forever, like Peter Pan in Neverland with the Lostboys. He's celibate. He seems to think sex is a sin. He seems to have changed his face, which reminded him of his father, to try to look like Peter Pan-white with a small elfish nose. The long hair and makeup seems to be Mike trying to keep his "King of Pop" "glamorous rock star" image. Michael Jackson is obviously insane. Michael Jackson is clearly crazy, clearly a freak (Prince is a freak too), but I don't believe Michael Jackson is really a child molester. He seems to try to have friendships with boys that he never had when he was a little boy because he was forced to be an adult, act like an adult, be around adults, when he was little. He seems to try to hard to be nice, make kids feel cared for and happy, the things he never felt when he was a little boy. He seems to have married Lisa Marie Presley for his image, to make himself seem normal. She seems to have agreed to married Mike mainly because she thought he would help her start a music career.

CLASSIC. damn.....did I write this?

Well I've come to the conclusion that you have no clue what you are talking about...

So let us go step by step...

1. How certain are you that Michael Jackson doesnt play any intruments. You all keep saying Prince plays every instruments. He doesnt! Michael Jackson plays the piano quite well...

2. Michael Jackson has won more awards to his name than Prince will ever have. So Prince has an Oscar... Michael was nominated for one and a nomination is honorable. Especially for his age at the time. Not to mention, Michael has recieved every concievable music award on the planet.

Shall we go through the main awards?

Grammy - 13
AMA - 24
Billboard - 39 (Icluding several awards for his decade achievements)
Biggest Selling Albumm - Thriller - 50 million +

Michael Jackson one of the best-selling male pop artist of all-time, with over 350 million albums and singles sold worldwide.
Thriller is the best-selling album of all-time, with over fifty one million copies sold worldwide [1].
HIStory: Past, Present, & Future is the best-selling multiple-disc album of all-time (7th best-selling album overall), with over eighteen million copies sold worldwide [2].
Blood On The Dance Floor/HIStory In The Mix is the best-selling remix album of all-time, with over six million copies sold worldwide [3].
Jackson has nine platinum singles, second only to Elvis Presley among male artists.
[edit]
Chart records
Jackson's Thriller remained at number one for thirty-seven weeks, the longest stay by a non-soundtrack album to date. [citation needed]
Jackson was the first artist to have seven top-ten singles from one album (Thriller).[citation needed]
Jackson was the first artist to simultaneously have the number-one album and number-one single on Billboard's Pop Charts and Black Charts.[citation needed]
Jackson was the first artist in the 1980s to have two simultaneous top-five hits ("Beat It" and "Billie Jean" on April 16, 1983).[citation needed]
Jackson was the first and, to date, only artist to have five number-one hits from one LP, Bad ("Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", and "Dirty Diana").[citation needed]
Jackson had nine number ones in the 1980s, more than any other artist during the decade.[citation needed]
Jackson has the most Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles for a male recording artist. [citation needed]
Jackson was the first artist to ever have a song debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 ("You Are Not Alone").[citation needed]

Michael Jackson has had thirteen number-one singles on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart and behind only Elvis Presley's seventeen among male artists.
Michael's US Number Ones (13)

1-Ben (1 week)
2-Rock with You (4 weeks)
3-Don't Stop Till you get enough (1 week)
4-Billie Jean (7 weeks)
5-Beat It (3 weeks)
6-Say Say Say (6 weeks)

10-Man In The Mirror (2 weeks)
11-Dirty Diana (1 week)
12-Black Or White (7 weeks)
13-You Are Not Alone (1 week)

I mean we could go on and on...

It is the public who deems what good music is and the public has resoundly said that they would rather buy a Michael Jackson album before they bought a Prince album.

During Michael Jackson era no other artist has more No.1 hits than he does other than Mariah Carey...

Last I checked I think Michael Jackson is a better singer than Prince. Michael Jackson has an amazing range and an amazing falsetto. However, this is more subjective...

Style...

O.K.

During Michael Jackson trial last year, he never showed up to court wearing the same thing twice. Each suit was custom made. The one he wore to the verdict reportedly cost $90,000... Style is highly subjective, however not everyone digs everything Prince wears... I mean come on...

Overwhelming say what you want to say about Michael Jackson he has a legacy of music that is far more accomplished than Prince and the American public agrees because Micahel Jackson has sold nearly 4x's more albums than Prince.

Michael Jackson - 300 million
Prince - 100 million

You do the math...

Michael Jackson has broken more records than any other solo artist... he is only surpassed or in competition with Elvis... Prince is no where on the charts.

When talk about bodies of work... yes Prince has an amazing body of work, but who has listened to them other than hardcore Prince fans? NOONE!!!

You ask the average person walking down the street name any Prince album released from 1990-2000 they couldn't tell you. You know why? Because Prince isn't and never has been as famous as Michael Jackson.

I will concede Michael Jackson's personal struggles have made him the butt of many jokes, but Michael Jackson has always had the last laugh... many people dismiss him without remembering his contribution to pop culture and popular music.

I could go on and on...

Michael Jackson is a great lyricist... You act as if Michael couldnt talk about God in once sentence and talk about sex in another...

I've always considered Michael Jackson to be a true genius.

I've also since 1996 liked Prince. i would say now hes my second favorite artist.

To be honest I consider Prince to be a poor mans Michael Jackson, but he puts out albums on a regular basis and i find most of them enjoyable, but never to the level of MJ's. Prince helps fill the time between Michael's albums.

I would say Michael is a far better singer, Dancer and songwriter. I also Think his live shows are the best ever. As far as musicainship goes prince can play more but I think Michael is maybe better on piano.

Prince is good but he at his best for me when doing pop type music and whenhe does I always hear Michaels influence in that music.

For me Michael is a 10/10

Prince a 8/10

Most of the biggest producers of today Pharell, Kanye West, and Rodney Jerkins have all attributed Michael Jackson's influence. I've heard few if anyone say that Prince has been such an influence. I'm not saying Prince is not an influence on pop music, but you have got to be kidding me if you are going to sit here and tell me and the rest of these people here that Prince is a much larger influence on pop music than Michael Jackson when 90% of his albums are literally unknown to the public!

Dude... as we say in the ghetto... HO SITDOWN!

man.....I'm going to say this in a polite way. You don't know what the hell you are talking about. I've spoken to 100's of PROFESSIONAL musicians over the years. Prince is easily one of the most respected and influencial artist of the last 30 years. According to these professionals, no one else is even in Prince's class. MJ's major impact is /was on the vision and performance side, NOT the music. Let's get real, Pharell, Andre 3000, and some other cats would not have a career if they were not jacking Prince.

It doesnt matter what music professionals say... it matters what the American public says and what the buying public has said... and the buying public has overwhelmingly chosen Michael Jackson by far.

I've asked many people just like you and I, who is the best artist... most of them without hestitation will say Michael Jackson, mainly in part because they know more of his music.

Prince of course is still an influence but on the entire genre Michael Jackson reigns without a rival.

Again,

80-90% of Prince's albums arent even known to the buying public, other than major Prince fans.

Michael Jackson has been a listed influence to every major pop artist of the last 15 years.

Usher, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Omarion, R. Kelly, Pharell, Kanye West, Outkast, ect... they have all in music and performance listed Michael Jackson as a major influence to thier career.

I will not dismiss Prince as most of you do with Michael Jackson. I am not saying he is not much of an influence however, Michael Jackson's music permeates pop culture and most of all of what we listen to on the radio is a hell of alot more Michael Jacksonish that Princish!

PROVE ME WRONG!!!!![/quote]

that's an important word there....it doesn't permeat culture...it permeates pop culture. Pop culture is discussed on VH1 TV shows...Culture is written and recorded in history books. and discussed thousands of years from now.

Prince, a poor man's Michael Jackson? R U KIDDING? what planet r u from? u have 2 b an alien 2 even let a comment such as that come from your lips. A true genius is measured by his longevity. As of 2day (April 25, 2006) it seems 2 me and i may b paranoid but isn't Prince still on the music scene, and where is Mike, some damn where in Dafur or whatever the name of the country is. His musical career is basically OVER and now he is selling his much sought after rights 2 the Beatles catalog. He recently was forced 2 closed down his Neverland ranch because he couldn't pay the people who worked there. He hasn't had a hit in years. He is supposedly LOW on funds. Let's see, is there anything else? Well u get the point.
On the other hand, Prince has just released what may b 1 of his best cds in years. His musicology tour (which was only about 2 years ago) was 1 of the highest grossing tours of 2004, he doesn't participate in all that weird-like behavior and actions as Mike does, unlike Mike, he's married 2 a beautiful woman, i think he is far from being broke. He was 1 of the 1st artist 2 start selling his music via the internet, he can play well over 30 different instruments, he composes MOST of his music, he produces most of his music, shall i REALLY go on?
I think u get my point.
Now i will give Mike his props. In his earlier days, he was a true performer and some of the best music that i've heard came from him along with his brothers. His solo career was VERY sucessfu again making some of the most memorable music 2 date, but he fell off somewhere along the way and now he is just a has-been. A artist whose star has basically fallen.
Sir/madame, true genius is really based on the type of music u produce and i think the fan base of Prince is basically made up of people of average or above average intelligence. I have friends that rn't really in2 the music of Prince and i've come 2 this conclusion. Prince music is more complex than that of Michael. I like Prince better because most of his music (well his older music) has 2 be dissected, analyzed, put back 2gether and then listened 2 again. I like that. I like the fact that he drowns some of his music in metaphores not just a "here u go listen" thing. Throughout Prince's long music career and the many years that i have been a Prince fan, there is something that i have noticed; NONE of his songs sound the same. They all seemed 2 have different rhythms and styles and that's a tremendous accomplishment.
In closing, i would just like 2 say that I've always admired the man and his music. His sense of style will NEVER b matched and just like the late rapper Tupac Shakur who will NEVER EVER have any1 match his musical genius, Prince will NEVER EVER meet his match because that match will NEVER EVER b born.
Derrick
