Great quote from Michael Stipe about Albums. I was just thinking of an interview with Michael Stipe about 6 months after "Around the SUn" came out and the Journalist asked him "how do u feel that your albums dont sell like they used too", Michael said "We never really sold, we were always an under the radar band with a loyal following, and then we were accepted by Mainstream for a a little bit and then back to our loyal following" . Then the reporter asked Stipe the question that all artists get "what is your best album" stipe said "Around the SUn, its the best we've made right now, until the next one comes out".
I think this should be something that everyone should understand, especially when we look at Prince's releases. An artist of Longevity is really looking to please themselves FIRST as it should be, because if they arent, then they arent artists, they are just puppets. If you dig it, cool, if not, thats your opinion till next time. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I like his answer. It's almost like saying "we ARE selling like we used to"

I have literally 100's of songs that no one has heard but me.....and the wife. About 20% of is really good but I just sit on them. I'm a homeless man's Prince. If I EVER finish this damn movie script, I'll use some of them in the film.

But i think what Michael was trying to say with the quote was that Right now what we have out is our best for right now, there is a big difference with all artists 'that last" sure we all have opinions on what album is the best but we have to remember no one records all their albums at the same time, you think different when your 40 than 20, life changes everything, if U dont change then u arent really an artist.
