I`m very curious about this, there`s probably some treasures there...
There were MANY great bands in the 80s, Duran Duran, The Bangles, A-Ha, Blondie, but The Culture Club is so easy to listen to, how can anyone not love songs like "Karma chameleon"...

I have it as well, and being a huge CC fan - felt obligated to get it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of "stuff" that could have been omitted -- like the solo work of Boy George. They could easily have made a separate box set for him (idea???) and left the CC material to stand on it's own.
Otherwise, there are so many "greatest hits" discs out there (I count 5 in my own collection) that contain the usual. Why did they have to put the usual on here? It would have been better if they gave us new remixes, live, or accoustic versions -- something the diehard fans don't already have. There are a few gems on here, however.

Do you have... issues... with british stuff in general? Yeah. Brit r&b is terrrible stuff. Check my pan on the "Sussido" thread. Is there a Simply Red thread where I can attack those bozoes too? test

I haven`t heard any of these cds, but a dance mix of "The war song" sure sounds good

The best thing about this box set was the early demos on Disc 1. I didn't like that it's called a "Culture Club" box but contains SO much Boy George solo work, and they ignored the "Waking Up With The House on Fire" and "From Luxury To Heartache" LPs except for one song (maybe it wasn't their best work, but it's still Culture Club).
BTW-- HELEN TERRY (the backup singer on "Black Money", "Church of the Poison Mind" etc) is one of my favorite vocalists... I will listen to ANYTHING she sings on...

But I grabed "Cheapness and Beauty" for about the same price about a year ago, and really can't find anything on there to recommend it. However, a few months ago I stumbled upon "Unrecoupable One Man Bandit, Vol. 1" (which I think is outtakes from the "Cheapness and Beauty" era?) is better then both of them - highly recmmended. I still need to track down "High Hat", "The Martyr Mantras", and other stuff from that era, as I remember these borrowing from a friend and thinking they were some of his best work. -->> This Space 4 Rent <<--

/quote] That was my feeling as well. It seems that George and his ego dominated the box set. There was tons of solo work (but none of the side projects from the other band members), and no comments from and very few pictures of the other members. As for his solo work, I really like Sold, Martyr Mantras, and the Unrecoupable One Man Bandit. Cheapenss and Beauty has some nice songs on it, mostly the slow and mid tempo ones like the title track, Same Thing in Reverse, Il Adore and Unfinished Business. But most of that album was an ill advised attempt to do grunge rock which did not suit his voice at all. Now, I really like alternative rock music, but it was ill fitting on Boy George. I guess in recent years, he has concentrated on djing not recording. He has one acoustic album, You Can Never B 2 Straight, which is mostly re-recordings of older songs, with a few new songs, which didn't impress me at all, and his voice sounds really horrible and damaged on the new recordings. He needs to take a break from clubbing and playing other people's records, and get back in touch with his own creativity.

Thanks for the recommendations Peope may say what they want about Boy George, but he can really sing, and he`s got a great souful voice.

It's also heavy on Georges solo career...which really is a mixed bag. WHat I'd love to see is a full on Culture Club box with just thier stuff and maybe a release of FLTH on CD. Love love LOVE a live version of "Strange Voodoo" I heard once. Anyone know which CC album its from?

I have it... was tough to get through... there is a version of Victims (called "Shirley Temple Moment") where Boy George is recording Victims and has a fucking fit... it's VERY funny. The remixes were mostly dreadful... I was very disappointed.

There`s a live album called "River sessions", but it`s not there, so i don`t know. I bought the set too, but i wasn`t really that impressed, mostly it was bad remixes and Boy songs. The two first discs are rather good though. I also bought the greatest hits dvd, that included the "Kiss across the ocean" concert
