Apart from Madonna I've seen all of them live in concert and at least Janet had a really good show whereas Michael's concert was one of the worst I've seen in my whole life barf. I should have stayed at home to watch some of his videos and some of Michael Jackson fans worshipping their hero instead, there was not alot more happening at the concert either disbelief. Madonna had some songs over the years that I liked, but I have no desire at all to see her live on stage. For me she just has no personality at all and her musical talents are no reason to go to a concert evillol. And though I usually dig artists who are style icons I never understood the hype about her at all pout

Talent wise?

1. Prince
2. MJ (his singing voice far exceeds Prince's live)
3. Madonna (her voice is decent, and her live performances are entertaining)
4. Janet - terrific live performances, but her weak ass voice astounds me that anyone could ever say she's a great singer.

DAMN, I actually had to click the thread to find out who "JJ" is lol

I would NOT rank her w/ them - different era, about the same level of talent as Madonna BUT the only reason you can even lump Madonna in w/ P & MJ is b/c she was so big in the 80's. That said...

#1: P - all around, has all these bitches beat... 2 times...

#2: MJ - no longer enjoy him as a performer but he still has that voice, which is really beautiful when he uses it on worthy songs...

#3: M/JJ - I give Madonna the edge for longevity & not having the advantage of nepotism, but Janet has done insanely well for herself & left the rest of her family in the dust (Michael included IMO in terms of just being a more appealing/current artist). I enjoy Janet's music more, but don't follow either with any degree of regularity...

What are we really ranking here? Talent? Legend status? confused

:::reads the thread:::

Aww damn...

#1: Prince

#2: Madonna

#3: Janet

#4: MJ

And you'd have to put a gun to my head to make me see any of these bitches besides Prince lol
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

falloff I'm SO not into the 70s revival -- although I love Madonna.

Anyway. My list is based on reverence for those with philosophies about the world, defiant stances, and reflectivity -- in additional to great music sensibilities.

So I rank:
1. PRINCE first.
Raw talent. Great ideas expressed in lyrics and musicianship. He created a mini-social revolution with his uptown/new breed ideas that still impact divergents to this day. Can play across all genres well. Iconic.

2. MADONNA second.
Love her feminist stance and independent nature. She is a visionary and pied piper. She may not be a great musician, but her ideas are her own and she is charismatic. She's used her musical platform to say some meaningful, in-your-face things and I respect that. She has NEVER lost her relevance or her ability to seize the contemporary music scene.. That is indeed rare.

3. MICHAEL JACKSON is third -- certainly he's talented and has tremendous musical skill. In fact, he is a natural-born transcendent force. Dude's not ordinary, he's anointed. Wish I could rank him higher. His vocals are angelically beautiful. He set a dance standard ...he really becomes the music in smooth bodily form and now err'body copies him.

But I never thought he had a voice -- as far a set body of opinions. That is what his canon is sadly lacking. And as I've stated this is important to me when I consume work of any artist. Art is about concept and philosophical/social movement as well as skill.

4. Last is JANET Now, she's been more of a crusader than Michael. Rhythm Nation -- that was a brilliant conceptual work. But she's had lots of help (Rene, Terry, Jimmy) and I'm not sure she's the main force behind her greatest successes. Her singing vocals are limited. But she has great presence. I don't believe she plays ANY instruments? (does she?)

Prince
Michael Jackson

For people who grew up consistently watching MTV in the 80s (there's a lot of us) and who love pop music in general from that era...Janet is definitely a part of that. Whitney might be too, but her videos were never that memorable and she only did one type of song, really. Mariah didn't come till later; Tina is too much part of the previous generation; I don't think George Michael ever had quite the career of these others. Boy George and Cyndi Lauper were so 'over' by the late 80s that they aren't up there either.

and anyway it's MY big four! lol

Believe me I wanted to put Janet first, but overall I think Madonna has had way more of an impact. Other then that, that is how I see it. If it was about only my taste, I'd put Janet behind Prince and Madonna as last. But oh well...

Interesting thread..

Prince- his album output is untouchable!!
Madonna- she has been making hits since the 80's and doesn't seem to let up!!
MJ- his personal troubles has affected his musical career but he's been singing since he was a kid and that's truly amazing!!
JJ- MJ's baby sister is a star of her own!!

to be exact, it was the Dangerous tour and the date was August 26th 1992 in the Praterstadion Vienna nod ...OK, I'm just guessing now that this was the gig you've been to... smile

of course Michael played in Austria before, so you had also a chance to catch him for the Bad tour in Vienna on June 2nd 1988 or in Linz on September 6th 1988. personally I attended all of those shows, and yes I enjoyed the 88 gigs much more... and for 1992 well, let's just say the good things about it were that I finally could see a guy flying with a jetpack neutral ...and that gladly enough I didn't pay to get into the stadium shhh giggle

It must have been the Praterstadion in Vienna on August 26th 1992 nod. I didn't pay a lot of money for the ticket either and I was wearing a "Sexy mf" t-shirt so that nobody would think I am a MJ fan wink

All four of them are among my top 20 artists of all time, so don't read too much into these rankings.

1. Prince- quite honestly, no one can compete with his output in my mind.
2. Madonna/Janet- I can't break the tie. As soon as I feel I like one more, the other roars back.
4. Michael Jackson- I love a lot of his music, but his releases are too scarce.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!
