George turned out to be a really good songwriter, too. I think The Beatles were the first pop band to really truly take chances with their music and have it still be successful. I think that's why so many people love them to this day, and why they influence so many artists. That description sounds great. Where can I get their albums? "Todo está bien chévere" Stevie

Any kind of mainstream teeny-bopper act like Britney Spears or the Simpson sisters who think it's more important to "look pretty" than to actually perform good music, any kind of stupid rap shit, most r&b and reggaeton out there today, these fake British retro-rock invasion bands that think that they're music is too intellectual for you if you're not in the scene, emo bands, some hardcore bands, and Celine Dion

If on the other hand, you can't respect an artist for their contribution to "popular" music and their impact in the bigger scheme of things, well I don't want to tell you but to "Keep on Keepin' on". Fine then. What EXACTLY is their contribution to popular music. I'll pretend to care in this case, since I don't listen to "popular" music. Please explain. They're just a boy band. And there's nothing great about John Lennon either. The great thing about them (other than the couple hundred classic pop songs they contributed) was their growth. Like you say they started as a boy band. They did good pop, more melodic & harmonic than typical rock & roll. They were a very polished live band who sang & played well with great vocal arrangements. Still, it was just nice pop, puppy love songs. Nobody expected anything more from them. Then, in about 1965 they began to write more personal lyrics (Help), more challenging music, blurring the lines between pop & classical (Yesterday), folk & rock (You've Got to Hide Your Love Away), even adding a touch of R&B. Then in 1966, they added psychedelic touches (Tomorrow Never Knows, I'm Only Sleeping), Indian influences (Norweigen Wood), and even more insightful & personal lyrics (in My Life). The touches of classical (Eleanor Rigby) & Jazz (Got To Get You Into My Life) were more creative & individual. By 1967 they were adding stream of consciousness lyrics & sounds nobody had ever heard before (Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds), seamlessly blending musical styles from around the world and from the depths of their imagination (A Day In The Life). I could go on, but you get the idea. My Legacy

Its a sin that there are some ´musicfans´ who think that radiohead matter and create great music. Come on they are as trivial as Janet Jackson...

I can see the Beatle nazis have arrived.
Why isn't it possible to simply state that you don't like the Beatles without being ostracized? Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Of course the Beatles are better then Janet Jackson, but when some people say they hate the Beatles, thats legitimate...duh
Not all Prince-fans are musical omnivores (as i wish they would), some stick on R&B, others keep it with the funk, why bother when the only Beatles-song they ever heard is obladi-oblada and they base their view on that. To be honest, IMO, Prince, Kings X and World Party (Karl Wallinger) did better psychedelica then the beatles ever did, Crowded House perfectioned the perfect Pop song, I mean, i know the things the Beatles started those things, but that doesnt mean i like to listen to their music more then the other artists mentioned. The same goes with the Beatle-haters here. I mean, in a free, democratic society (wonders if some musicfans are...) thats a result of a thread like this.

Well I'd say it's somewhat unnecessary to "hate" art. It either speaks to you or it doesn't. Of course, I'd be lying if I said that there weren't certain "artists" I hate, but that almost always results from a combination of 1.Their personality (ie hatred of them as a person, not necessarily of their art at first) 2. lack of actual "artistic" merit in their music 3. resentment of popularity that is undeserved because of #2. There are lots of artists I don't "like" but that I respect, and others that I don't "get" but don't hate. Artists I hate almost always belong to the fatuous, braindead, uber-derivative mainstream radio categories: wack manufactured hip-hop (fiddy cent, black eyed peas), stale unoriginal R&B (usher), pretentious and/or blase and/or whiny and/or melodramatic modern rock (coldplay, radiohead, oasis), smooth/snooze jazz that gives real jazz a bad rep (kenny g., whatever the hell's on "the breeze" at the moment).
