Paul McCartney/Wings

I've been listening to Macca's solo back catalogue, including Wings. Everything he recorded pre-1990 was nicely remastered by EMI in 1993. Really digging most of his 70's stuff; most of the hits (Another Day, My Love, Live And Let Die, Band On The Run, Jet, Silly Love Songs, No More Lonely Nights), but also lesser-known tracks like:

The Back Seat Of My Car (this song is fantastic, gee he's got a great knack for melody).
Every Night
Junk
Letting Go
Listen To What The Man Said
Girlfriend
Arrow Through Me
Here Today (nice live version on Back In The U.S. Live 2002 as well)

Haven't listened to his 90s albums yet, though I hear Flaming Pie is solid.

What y'all opinions on McCartney/Wings records?

I've been listening to them a lot lately myself. I only have Wingspan History and Wingspan Hits, so I'm not sure if some of these songs are just Paul solo, or with Wings, or if they are one-in-the-same. lol I wasn't into them until recently actually.

Favorite songs of mine off of these compilations that I have are: Jet, Maybe I'm Amazed, Helen Wheels, Every Night cloud9 , Junk, Man We Was Lonely, Venus and Mars Rockshow, Girlfriend (yes, Girfriend biggrin ), Band on the Run, Live and Let Die, Call Me Back Again, and my all-time favorite: Bluebird love

"Junk" demos dates back to the Beatles (White Album times)... so does "Maybe I'm Amazed", I bet...

I never did get "Jet"

Paul is a god of course. An old one.

His quick guitar opening to Band On The Run is as sublime as Jimi's Little Wing imo. Was Prince going for that with WDC?

Listen is greta and not obscure though. I love the sanborn sax at the end and how Paul switched tempo.

Its funny, Michael Jackson covered Girlfriend on Off The Wall. Nobody ever mentions this much.

Yes Maybe I'm Amazed was from beatle period.. although it wasn't presented to the group to sing.. not to my knowledge

but it was written at the ending of the beatle period

I have the 2-CD "Wingspan" compilation and I love it.My favorite songs are:

"Jet"
"Band On The Run"
"My Love"
"Goodnight Tonight"
"Silly Love Songs"
"Let Em In"
"Listen To What The Man Said"

Disc 1 stays in my CD player.I rarely ever play Disc Two,I prefer their 70s work.

I've been listening to a lot of Paul's 70's output lately & have been really loving Wildlife & Red Rose Speedway. I know they are not considered his greatest songs. I like that period after he left the Beatles but hadn't quite gotten into being the big star routine. Basically everything before & including Band on the Run.

I've always been an advocate of Red Rose Speedway. Get On The Right Thing is the Paul I know & love.

Maybe that's it. Actually there's a movie that plays many songs from McCartney, maybe it's J.M.

One of my favorite albums! I started a thread on this several months back that went barely noticed. I should get over it when my threads don't get 100+ posts! lol Superb album with some of the best production work of its era. I can listen to Band on the Run and Jet on repeat. I don't know what's up with McCartney's avion fixation is, but it continued on this album with Bluebird. Love the SE that was released a few years ago as well.

Yeah well, I remember that thread cuz I was one of the few that posted on it. Why? Cuz I dig that album as well. I like damn near all of The Wings stuff and early Paul's solo stuff.

Cool, I guess that's a Cameron Crowe movie. He knows his rock pretty well. Those songs lend themselves well to movies because of their raw, unfinished quality.

I always consider Golden Earth Girl a great composition by him... lyrically, its different.. and the melody is one of his prettiest. that one means a lot to me.. makes me a bit sad, but its a wonderful song.

That was your first mistake.

And everyone on this board should be ashamed for encouraging him.
If you knew what I was thinking you'd be worried....
