Ah, the French Prince (get it?)! Serge, I praise your name!
"Ainsi je deconnais avant que je ne perde
Le controle de la Rolls. J'avancais lentement
Ma voiture deriva et un heurt violent
Me tira soudain de ma reverie. Merde!
J'apercus une roue de velo a la avant,
Qui continuait de tourner en roue libre,
Et comme une poupee qui perdait l'equilibre
La jupe retroussee sur ses pantalons blancs"

Dirty minded little cabbage head! Ah Melody! Personally I can't see why you rate Wendy and Lisa so highly. Sure, Eroica is quite nice, and some of the tracks would have fitted on a Prince album to wonderful 'Parade like' effect, but for me it remains a sad reminder of what might have been. Those girls just can't sing!! I'm just discovering Depeche Mode. Exciter fuckin' rocked!!

sure I have - it's great! I really missed the moog/mellotron though...

If you haven't heard the vanessa paradis album (seems no one has) - try it, I think it's an excellent lenny production. I'm going to have to give Cree Summer another spin - I didn't like it much the first time

I knew you were the coolest, most gorgeous woman!! A fellow Abba nut - o.k., in your case 'connoisseur' - on the Org. About damn time!! If you don't already have them, get all the Abba albums, with all the cool extra tracks (except for the early crap like 'Ring Ring'). For me, Andersson was the Mozart of pop. But the thing is Ulvaeus was a wonderful lyricist, who just got better and better (and he had an uncanny ability to produce convincing lyrics for the girls - sorry!!! - to sing). 'The Visitors' is a stupendous achievement, (IMHO) the best adult 'pop' that could ever be imagined (I've got the version with those 3 amazing extra tracks 'Should I Laugh or Cry' 'The Day Before You Came' 'Under Attack', and the final throwaway 'You Owe me One', that funny look forward to synth-pop. 'I Let the Music Speak' reduces me to tears, it's so beautiful. 'When All is said and Done' - who hasn't been there? 'The Visitors' - a song about the feelings of a dissident in the Soviet Union FCS - who else produced 'pop' on that level??? Oh god, I just love them on every conceivable level! (this is one reason I don't trust "good taste" - in the 70s and 80s everyone with "good taste" affected to despise them). I guess I'd better stop ranting...

You like Mazzy Star... hhmmm, interesting. If Miss Sandoval does it for you, you may get something from the more mainstream Swans albums, stuff like Burning World (hopefully soon to be rereleased), Great Annihilator (no no! very secret!!) or Soundtracks for the Blind. Gira's doomed love for Jarboe is one of the great passions of recent music (again, IMO).

Tori - yeah, never saw that one coming!! I'd probably go for 'Under the Pink' or 'Pele', but sure, a unique talent.

Depeche Mode - 'Put on your blindfold and a dress that's tight...' No, I'd better stop.

Well, I've enjoyed this, even if no one else has smile

Serge Gainsbours is indeed a musical giant of the 20th century.
"Those girls just can't sing" : Don't try to tell me what kind of love you need if you don't love me...
on Exciter there is the beautiful "Freelove", one of the best DM song ever.
