Hendrix Family Win Rights over Early Work

http://www.reuters.com/ne...ID=1168292

July 05, 2002 LONDON (Reuters) -
The family of dead rocker Jimi Hendrix
won a High Court battle in Britain
on Friday to regain control over some of his
earliest work. Mr. Justice Buckley ruled the
family were entitled to a say in any future
releases of the legendary guitarist's work with
a band called Curtis Knight and the Squires in
the mid 1960s. The legal battle dates back to a
claim by the family that PPX Enterprises had
breached a deal made in 1973 and was described
by the judge as an "extraordinary case." He ruled
the family were entitled to future royalties from
the music, but that they had no claim on past
payments. Hendrix, one of rock's most influential
figures, died in London in 1970, aged 27. He gained
his place in musical annals with his virtuoso
performances of songs like "Hey Joe" and "Purple Haze"
on his trademark Fender Stratocaster electric guitar.

I Agree as many Greatest Hits Packages as I've seen over the Years on Jimi it's Great to know the Family will have a Say on this as well.
