"I'm Still Standing" is Elton John's best single of the 80s

Just saw the video on YouTube and it reminded me of how much I love this song. From the summer of 1983.I think it's his finest single of the 80s,anybody agree?

"I'm Still Standing"
(music by Elton John, lyrics by Bernie Taupin)

You could never know what it's like
your blood like winter freezes just like ice
and there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
you'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use

And did you think this fool would never win?
well look at me,I'm coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
and if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away

Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

(chorus)
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah

Once I never could hope to win
you starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
and if our love was just a circus, you'd be a clown by now

Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

(chorus)
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah

Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing,yeah yeah yeah

what's your favorite Elton John hit from the 80s?

In a previous thread, somebody was saying how gay the video for Mighty Real is. I haven't seen that video, but I can say without a doubt that this video is surely gayer. Gay, gay, gay! 80s gay, no less - painted bodies, ill-fitting bikini bottoms, gays on beaches. It's a gayapalooza. The song's alright, but from that album I like I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues more.

Actually, I'm a little bit more partial to "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)" and "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues," but "I'm Still Standing" is a great song by Elton John too. And yes, that video is soooo gay. kisses

great song, great homo video. I would agree its Elton's best of the 80's.

My other favorite is "In Neon" from the "Breaking Hearts" album. I always thought it was one of his great ballads, and it's overlooked in my opinion.

I agree. Empty Garden, I Guess That's Why They call It The Blues, Sad Songs Say So Much, & Little Genie(Jeanie?), sound more like classic Elton John to me, but I'm Still Standing is good. You can tell Elton loves it, too, because he seems to sing it every time I see him play live on TV.

My favorite 80's Elton single is I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That. It's a hell of a lot more dated than I'm Still Standing, but that's part of what I love about it so much.

Also really love 'Sacrifice'. One of his best, most overlooked ballads. If it had been released in the mid '70s instead of the late '80's, it would be looked upon a lot more fondly.
