original tunes and the songs that sample them sitting here watching tv and rick james "superfreak" video came on
at the one point i just heard "can't touch this" by mc hammer i like both songs but it got me to thinking about samples i really hate this that these newer songs are superimposing themselves on older songs that i like and that i can't extract one from the other. the other day i saw kenny rogers and dolly parton performing "islands in the stream" on some show and the chorus starts and i'm like "ghetto superstar, that is what you are....." so, what old songs can't you listen to anymore without hearing a newer song that sampled it?

Original: The Isley Brothers, "Between the Sheets"
Sample: Notorious B.I.G, "Big Poppa" P.S. with Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious" and many more songs, this is one of the most played-out samples ever.
