Oh yes!! love dem Books!! Man, I wish I had the money to own 'em all..... I do have these two, one on the albums, and the other one on the singles... And there's another one that I liked, Billboard's Book Of Number One Rhythm and Blues Hits- - I really liked this one because it featured stories and interviews with each of the soul acts that had the number one hit. For example, there's a story in the book on The Isley Brothers recording "Who's That Lady" (3+3 version)...Marvin Isley says that Ernie was in the sound booth practicing what was gonna be his guitar solo on the song...he didn't realize his brothers were recording it...he had his back to the glass, and he didn't see the rest of them cheering him on. Then he came out of the booth and said, Ok, I think I know how I'm gonna do it, they laughed, "You already did it ! That was great, we're keepin that!" Another interesting story in the book concerns their number one hit, "Fight the Power"--- it was actually the older brothers, Ron, O'Kelly, and Rudolph that wanted the line "...all this Bullshit goin down..." on the record. The younger brothers, Ernie , Marvin and cousin Chris Jasper were actually wondering if they were gonna get too much flak for it, But Ron persisted, telling them, "this is what's happening now-- it needs to be said".... ... [Edited 2/21/06 7:51am] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Not a "hits" list...
...but a good reference for JAZZ on CD nonetheless. The Jazz CD Listener's Guide - Howard J. Blumenthal - Billboard Books tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

There were so many different charts outside of Billboard back then. If it was a non-Billboard chart then I wasn't interested. When Casey Kasem started doing his own Casey's Top 40 countdown, I stopped listening. I only listened for the long distance dedications anyway. Casey just couldn't keep up with the times. It sounded completely ridiculous for him to say stuff like "Coming in at #3, it's Color Me Badd with I Wanna Sex You Up..." My Legacy
