Santana Song Of The Day: "Everything's Coming Our Way" (1971) music

(music and lyrics by Carlos Santana)

Open your eyes
let it all begin with me
brand new day
fresh new way to live
the mornin' is callin'
walk with me into the sun

Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way

Here's my hand
reaching out to you
take it,darlin'
and lead me on,yeah

Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way
Ah

(organ solo)

Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way
Ah

I can feel it in my bones
no man stands alone
Sister,brother
from all the same seed

Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way
Everything is comin' our way

I think so - this is said right here: "Everything's Coming Our Way" is a Carlos Santana written and sung song that touches the softer string with the inclusion of a rhythm acoustic guitar and a lovely Hammond soloing by Gregg Rolie all through the track. The fine bass line and conga play is also notable on this track. This gorgeous, mellow and uplifting tune is one of the best Carlos has ever written and stands kinda isolated on the heavy sounding tracks of the rest of the album. There is almost no electric guitar in this tune: instead of the guitar rushes Carlos delivers a wonderful vocal, maybe too soft for the usual Santana tunes, but perfectly suiting this track's mood." (from: http://www.soul-sacrifice.com/III.html)

I think I have to play some Santana records now (Only have the Lotus Live Cd, an extended Abraxas... and two "best ofs" (okay, I know...)

Years ago I borrowed "Caravanserai" and thought it was a very, very good album.

Caravanserai, Welcome and Barboletta...

...are 3 of the most interesting releases in the Santana catalogue.

The personnel changes, specifically the addition of Tom Coster, added a Jazz element to this era of the band.

I remember he covered Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Stone Flower" on Caravanserai, I like this song very much. (And Antonio is great, anyway - of course I had to buy the Stoneflower album from 1970 wink )

Btw, thanks for bringing back Santana. The last 2 years I hardly listened to him, and right now I have "Hope You're Feeling better" playing - the moment were the song slows down, right before the guitar solo, produces shiver as it did many years ago. FANTASTIC!

I definitly will augment my "collection".

I like the "new" school Santana better than the "old" school Santana. I liked the album, "Supernatural" and I LOOOOOVED, "Shaman." (It is one of my favorite albums EVER.) As for, "All That I Am" I love the track, "I'm Feeling You" However, beyond that I didn't care for much of the album. I realize a lot of his "old" school fans will give me crap for liking his newer music so much better, but oh well. boxed Just curious, do any of his "Pre-Supernatural" albums sound close to "Supernatural" or "Shaman?" Perhaps, his third album by some awesome chance? hmmm

If I remember correctly I read that some albums right before Supernatural didn't sound so much different to Supernatural. Have you checked them out alread? Though I am by no means an expert on this.

Be sure to get 'Borboletta','Amigos','Festival' and 'Moonflower' too! You can't go wrong with his 70s albums.

Hm, let me repeat:
-Santana
-Abraxas (the only album I have so far, besides Lotus and a "Black Magic Woman" comp.)
-III
-Caravanserai
-Borboletta'
-Amigos'
-Festival
-Moonflower' (I know a track named Flor d'Luna (Moonflower) and like it a lot - reminds me of some early Al DiMeola!)

Have all of these albums been remastered/repackaged (yeah, I like that...wink )?

What do you all think of Lotus (a live album), btw?

I was checking out allmusic.com yesterday... what a load of records! Reminds me when I started collecting Prince (his catalogue is even more confusing because of the download albums). Not to speak of Frank Zappa...

"Flor de Luna" was a tremendous hit during the 70s in Latin America.
But Didn´t Santana recorded a version of Stoneflower that Antonio Carlos Jobim´s song?

Yes that's right, I mentioned it above; it's a song from the 1970 album "Stoneflower" by Jobim, a very interesting piece of work; also, it contains the famous "Brazil".

Thanks.
Definitely the 70s was a much more better epoch for Santana than the current Clive Davis´s --Supernatural neverending era.

'Caravanserai' has been remastered, but there are no bonus tracks.

'Moonflower' has also been remastered, with several bonus tracks, but they're just single edits of the songs "I'll Be Waiting" and "She's Not There".

I'm waiting for the other albums to get the remastered treatment.I'm surprised that there isn't a 2-CD Deluxe Edition of 'Abraxas' by now.

'Lotus' is amazing! A very powerful live album that captures Carlos and the band at their best.Recorded in 1974,during their Latin jazz/fusion/funk phase.
