I'm sure people here are tired of me talking about this show. And I'm telling you, December 2006 cannot get here soon enough! Jennifer's performance in Dreamgirls (and unfortunately the neuroses that killed her career) are the stuff of Broadway legend. There are many clips from different productions on youtube. Check out this clip from a piece on BET about the 20th Anniversary of the production. It's got a clip of Jennifer Holliday performing in the original production. So many talented women were involved in that production in its early years: Jennifer Holliday, Loretta Divine, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Deborah Burrell, Vanessa Bell.

She does oversing a lot of times, but she's got the voice to back it up so it doesn't bother me most of the times. I think people who like her singing like the drama and exaggeration of it all.

I actually have her Gospel CD and its alright. I have a performance of her doing AND I AM TELLING YOU from the late 80's at the Apollo. She weighed like 400 lbs and looked like she was about to bust while she was oversinging...I was like SHUTUP LADY...she is aight tho...

She can blow, but the facial expressions have got to go! Nobody can sing this like Jennifer. Thanks!

No, no. Beyonce is taking on the role of Deena, the lead singer. Jennifer Hudson is taking on the role of Effie, which was played by Jennifer Holliday. She's got the pipes to fill the role. Hopefully she can handle the acting part.
