Michael Jackson Re-releasing 20 Singles - With Video

I'm not a fan at all, I just thought this was a great idea...

http://www.sonybmgmusic.c...ws/1745/0/

Twenty of Jackson's singles are going to be re-released on DualDiscs. Basically, a DualDisc has a CD layer glued to one side and a DVD layer glued to the other side. You just flip the disc over accordingly - dependant on whether you're sticking the disc in a CD player or DVD player.

p.s. Talking of DualDiscs - I want this: http://www.sonymusicstore...kuId=90079

Your avatar picture, was his name John Carrington? I used to watch Dynasty but I can't remember the name.
He's dead now, isn't he? I mean the actor. I can't think of his name either.
Dynasty, Dallas, even Knot's Landing. I loved those shows. Dallas was my favorite. Oh and Falcon's Crest. Ahhh, memories.
But if you look at those show now, they really suck. Oh well.

Only the single mix and ONE remix per disc pout

Another wasted opportunity disbelief

Some artists like Depeche Mode or Erasure include every available mix + b-sides on their single re-releases. That's what I call a worthy release nod

You can't do that to enter the British charts though. They're restricted to 20 minutes running time or they'll be totally excluded from the chart.

Funny that the artists I mentioned are British whereas Mr Jackson is not.

Some artists think of their fans and some only want success shrug

Erm yes, and they release all those Maxi singles that aren't elligable for the chart. Their hardcore fans buy the 1;99 releases with absolutely nothing on them to get them in the chart. Plus, they're "electronic" acts that are known for remixes.

These Dual Disc things are supposed to have the original tracklists for the original singles, hence why all the 80s ones only have the acappella and extended mix tracks.

But the remix on the 'Beat It' single is a Moby remix from the nineties, isn't it? Or was that the 'Billie Jean' single? I can't find a link to it now.

Why should he be concerend with entering the British charts with songs that are already huge hits.
I think it's unfair to fans by restricting mixes just so he can top the charts. Or at the very least he could make the singles multiformatted. One disc with 2 tracks and another with all the mixes.
This is just silly and it's indeed a wasted opportunity.

Yes it is unfair, I agree. However, I seriously doubt Sony or Michael really are doing for the fans. I think they are doing it to get Michael on the charts, and his music back on the radio. They are probably wanting the first thing people think of when they think of Michael to be his awesome music, and not "child molestation" or "2005 trial." I think it is a good idea from the marketing side of things. (And yes I ordered mine from hmv already) but I wish Michael would get on his game and release a b-sides collection already. "The Ultimate Collection" was a step in the right direction, but then "The Essential" took two steps back. Maybe one day...

If you think Michael Jackson himself has had anything at all to do with the tracklisting of these things then you're sorely mistaken. He's listed as erm, "Executive Producer" but he barely touched the project. He's not even signed to the label.

I do wonder why that utter WANK Moby remix is on the Beat It single though. The Brothers In Rhythm mix of Wanna Be Startin Somethin isn't, and that's a million times better. Same for the Masters At Work mix of Rock With You. That "Remix Series" from the HIStory singles in 95-96 was excellent. Real value for money too, but that was before the chart officials put in all those silly rules about running times and number of tracks allowed sad

Oh, I got them from HMV website too, but I pre-ordered them when they'd put them up at their average prices for singles. Then when Sony released more details they yanked up the prices to £4.99 each and £9.99 for the Thriller box. I get them all for £3.99 including the box.

His name was John Forsythe and his Character's name was Blake Carrington. I don't think he is dead.

What is the point of this. Can't you just buy Number 1s cd and or video? Seems like this is only for the collector.

Yeah i never considered that, good point. Well it seems like the tracklistings posted here aren't as bad as i thought.

Is there a site where i can see the official mixes to his singles. I would be much interested.

It's actually a smarter idea than i thought. Getting these tracks rotated heavily on radio may open the doors for his upcoming album.

Nope, that animated clip was just made for that silly segment in Moonwalker. Nothing else was done with it. When MTV used to do rundowns of MJ singles in the 90s they'd always play that feckin' awful live performance of it from Dangerous, Bucharest mad
