Z Cult Favorite/Talk Talk-"It's My Life"

A gem of a song from 1982, this is DEFINATELY one of my all-time favorite songs by ANYONE. Everything about this song is on point; the arrangement, the groove and who can deny that loud ass clap on the chorus. I tell ya, the pre-chorus to this song is BETTER than most choruses in other songs. When you finally get to the chorus, man, that hook is through the roof. Talk Talk was feeling this shit. Can't really get with No Doubt's version. Anyway, who else out there digs
this song?

This is a great song. This was a pretty big dance hit back in 1983 if I remember correctly. I love the 12" version where the groove keeps going near the end and all you hear are the drums and bassline. Killer.

Love it! A fine example of mid 80s synth pop. In fact, I think I'm gonna give the album a listen now. No Doubt's version, while competently put together, ends up being pretty pointless. It's almost an exact copy of the original production, so why bother?

Thank you. Now I don't even have to mention their cover. Folks were acting like Gwen re-invented the wheel on that track.

Nah, Gwen's wasn't even close. Going on Rip's post, No Doubt's version lacks elements that makes the o.g. so great. One key thing they left out were the strings on the keyboard. That, along with that funky bassline, is what made the chorus so killer.
