Yeah, it was being filmed at the same film studio in England that filmed Willie Wonka. They were both going into production at the same time. It's said that Mick and Keith don't want the film to be released, mainly cuz it implies their "involvement" in some sinister plot in Brian's death. The film goes in that direction quite a bit, from what I read. Brian was the most talented of the Stones and more talented than a lot of his rock peers as well. I say bloody fucking time!

Yeah, I know, huh? But dig, folks thought it slightly odd that neither Mick or Keith went to Brian's funeral.

Well they were rid of the one that was most skilled instrumentally and the band's original chick magnet.
Full steam ahead I guess. confused

Brian's downfall, in terms of leadership, was that he couldn't write tunes.

Stoned

2005-UK-Docudrama/Biography [feature]/Showbiz Drama

Type: Features
Distributor: Vertigo Films
Rating: NR
Starring: Monet Mazur, Tuva Novotny, Paddy Considine, Leo Gregory
Directed by: Stephen Woolley

PLOT DESCRIPTION
The final days of one of the truly legendary figures of British rock & roll are explored in this biographical drama, which marks the directorial debut of veteran producer Stephen Woolley. Brian Jones (played by Leo Gregory) was one of the founding members of the Rolling Stones, and his incisive blues guitar style, broad range of musical influences, and striking blond good looks helped establish him as part of the true royalty of the British music scene. But by 1969, Jones' life had begun to spiral out of control; his appetite for drugs made him wildly unreliable, his arrests for possession of marijuana prevented the Stones from touring the United States, his bandmates Mick Jagger (Luke de Woolfson) and Keith Richards (Ben Whishaw) had grown tired of working with him (and envious of the attention he received in the press), and his longtime paramour Anita Pallenberg (Monet Mazur) had become involved with fellow Stone Richards. Worried about Jones' drug abuse, the band's tour manager, Tom Keylock (David Morrissey), hires middle-aged carpenter Frank Thorogood (Paddy Considine) to do some repairs at Jones' estate, but also asks him to look after the musician and try to keep him away from dope. Keylock underestimates the power of Brian's personality, and before long, the straight-arrow Thorogood is Jones' household manservant and partner in hedonism, through Thorogood begins to chafe at the emotional games Jones enjoys playing with his new companion. Stoned was adapted in part from three different books on Brian Jones and the Rolling Stones as well as recently uncovered interviews with people who claim to have been involved in Brian Jones' death. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Rock star film to cause controversy (Thursday November 17)
A controversial new film about the life and death of Rolling Stone Brian Jones has premiered - and could land its makers in court. Jones was found dead in a swimming pool in 1969, aged 27, and was initially thought to have died from a drink and drugs overdose. But director Stephen Woolley's film, Stoned, claims the guitarist was killed by his builder, Frank Thorogood.

The version of events is based on the testimony of two female witnesses who were at Jones's Sussex mansion on the night in question. Thorogood died in 1993 but his daughter is now considering legal action over the claims made in the film about her father.

Stephen Woolley said: "This is the truth as I know it until someone can prove otherwise. I based everything I knew on the testimony of people who were there. Frank's daughter has contacted me wanting to know about the film. She hasn't seen it yet and I don't want to discuss what she said to me."

But a film source said: "Frank Thorogood's daughter is considering launching legal action because she is unhappy about the content of the film and we are waiting to see what she will do."

The premiere at the Apollo cinema on Regent Street in central London attracted a celebrity crowd, including Patsy Kensit, Sadie Frost and her partner, Jackson Scott. It was attended by Leo Gregory, 26, who plays Jones and 23-year-old Amelia Warner, ex-wife of Colin Farrell, who plays Nurse Janet Lawson.
Lawson was there the night Jones died and has never spoken about what she saw. But Woolley hired a private detective to track her down and persuaded her to break her silence. The film is based on her testimony and that of Jones's girlfriend, Anna Wohlin.

Woolley, producer of Scandal and The Crying Game, spent 11 years researching the project.

Three people who did not attend the premiere were surviving Stones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts.
