You're at least one step ahead of me; I neither listen to the radio nor do I watch MTV.

I wouldn't call it a flop. But I do know I literally only heard it once on the radio in MPLS. That was at 10:30 PM on a weeknight too, not exactly prime airtime. And, I unfortunately have only a radio in my car so I listen to A LOT of radio.

So, while I wouldn't call it a flop, it certainly wasn't a smashing success or anything. I don't think it's a song that the average American would know at all. "Don't Tell Me" is probably the last single that I'd truly call a US success. Based on my terms, that is. smile

I agree with your terms. lol Success on TRL does not equate popular success. The rabid fans call into that show like crazy just to pump a song's visibility. Hung Up peaked high on the Hot 100, but it peaked quickly and didn't stay there very long.

Yes, but it achieved that top ten on the strength of its sales, which I interpret as meaning that the public liked the song. It was a number one on iTunes for a good clip.

I'm not saying it was a failure. My point is only that success on TRL really only means that somebody's fingers were working overtime hitting the redial button.

True. But radio exposure only means that Clear Channel wants you to hear it.

Sales are the real deal, now that downloads are included in chart positions.

i'm standing by my opinion smile

cos, when I mention the song to most "normal" folks, they are like "huh? never heard of that one"

to re-cap. I think it was a small success but not a smashing success

Good song, don't like the video, though. It doesn't enhance the song at ALL. The song sounded better to me when I wasn't watching.

Yup, I entirely agree. Radio play doesn't really mean a heck of a lot in this day and age when artists can get so much exposure from other sources. Hung Up went top 10 based on sales and the single sold incredibly well. It was at or near the top of the singles charts on iTunes for a good long while.

I always thought "Sorry" was kinda decent. But after seeing the video to it, I think that raised my hopes a bit as a single. Definitely looking forward to some remixes of this one.

Thanks!
