Which artists have sung live on Soul Train? I know its a short list but Kirk Franklin's recent live performance had me thinking back to which artist actualy had a working microphone while perfoming.

James Brown has made to major performances on Soul Train, one in 1973, the other one in 1974. On both shows, he and the JB's played live, and they also brought in guests like Lyn Collins and Sweet Charles Sherrell.
Mandrill appeared on Soul Train in 1973, playing "Hang Loose" and "Git it all", both entirely live.

Even back in the 1970s, most performances on Soul Train were lip-synch. There are some really terrible ones by Marvin Gaye and Al Green I can think of .. they really didn't know how to lip-synch.

We all would rather have heard them sing live (LOL)

They actually used the Vynl LP to lip synch too . Listen & you can hear the record skip in the middle of the song . http://www.youtube.com/w/...=nickfresh

Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson once sat at the piano and did a medley of their songs. Those were rare/special moments. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth
