The Jacksons "VICTORY" Appreciation Thread It's time to give it up for The Jacksons 1984 LP, Victory. It was released in June of that year and is the only LP to feature all six brothers (2300 Jackson Street featured all six, but only on the title cut). It is their best selling LP as the Jackosns with over 4 Million sold (2 Mill. in US), The LP was followed with an, at the time, the biggest grossing Tour of all time, The Victory Tour. This LP is very underated, as many fans don't care for it, probally because it is not a traditional J5/Jacksons record with Michael and/or Jermaine on most tracks singing lead and they were looking for something different after Thriller. This is basicaly a demo so the public can see what the othr Jacksons not named Jermaine and Michael can do as know one remembered Jackie's and Randy's solo work years earlier. Torture : Lead by Michael and Jermaine Wait : Lead by Jackie with Michael and Jermaine One More Chance : Lead by Randy State of Shock [Duet with Mick Jagger] : Lead by Michael and Mick Jagger Be Not Always : Lead by Michael We Can Change the World : Lead by Tito The Hurt : Lead by Randy Body : Lead by Marlon PS. The first pressings of the LP featured a dove on Randy's shoulder. The reason being was because at the end of every show, they would release doves into the crowd, but the plans were scrapped. This pressing is very rare to collectors. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Its solid (pretty much any jackson related album is solid to me), still "2300 jackson street" is the better album
"wait" still rocks though

i appreciate the hell out dat album.
ONE MORE CHANCE and BODY makes that album for me. its very obvious mike held back/wasn't into making the album.

I always thought this album sucked, but I did like "One More Chance." It was covered by Janet, right? I've never heard her version.
Anyway, I just saw the video for "Body" on youtube.com. Wow. That's all I can say, lol.

oh yeah, one more chance is awesome. Still, he almost ruins it when he says "i love u" at the end. Talk about cheesy.

Man!!! I just went to youtube.com and saw the video for Blame it on the Boogie for the first time. I know it's not from Victory (I did watch Body too but, it doesn't compare to BIOTB Michael was the charisma in that group). Not only did Michael have a great voice back then but, he looked like some guy you'd want to snatch up at a club and keep to yourself. This was before his dancing was choreographed. You could still tell he could dance his ass off but, he wasn't so serious and he just looked as if he was having a great time.

I own this and this is a very enjoyable album. State of SHock is my fave, but I have a question: Did Freddy Mercury of Queen have something to do with the song? I have heard about it before, but I can't validate it.
PLease help "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

Be Not Always is the only decent track on that wreck.

I had that tape when I was a lad....I threw the cover away cause "Jacksons in Space" theme disturbed me....And I think I recorded over the tape.... clever clever quotation - attention getting quote - sad yet witty remark - look at me! Im deep quote- song lyric about my ex cause that bitch stole my mp3 player! - line from movie I liked - Prince lyric - not very clever sig mocking other sigs

yea, tons of young people bought that album that never owned a Jacksons album, Michael shoulda never mailed it in, Tell me I'm not dreamin' and Somebody watching Me would have made better filler.

Co-Sign However, I don't think Victory was a train wreck, I think it should have been an EP instead and include: Torture State Of Shock (Without Mick Jagger) Be Not Always One More Chance Body I skip the rest of this album and honestly I don't really ever listen to "One More Chance" or "Body." There I said it, Mick Jagger hurt the song "State Of Shock" on some levels. I don't think he helped the song VERY MUCH and I would have much rather heard Michael sing it all the way through. (This is the case with lots of songs IMO that Michael duets on.) LOL I am kind of biased in this area incase you didn't guess it.

I don´t have this album. I only have Triuph and Destiny, but I´ve heard Be Not Always and loved it. Damn, I must have it somewhere on my tapes. I gotta check it out again. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Victory would've been better if Queen would've been involved. Freddie Mercury was better on State of Shock than Mick Jagger and the actual song Victory which isn't released with Queen could've made the album better as well. apparently there was some fallen out between Freddie and Michael over cocaine. Well that's what I heard from other Queen fans on their version of this site, I don't know if it's true. In it's released form I think it borderline sucks because it played on what was going on in music at the time. I guess the Jackson's always did that but I expected them to pick up where they left off and not some mid 80's pop trash. They should've rocked the funk. Most importantly not enough Michael!!!! He's the lead vocalist. I think the egos ran amok on the others (Tito singing?!) and they forgot they weher actually a band and had their particular instrument and Michael was the lead singer. He should've sung lead on the vast majority of song and maybe a song sung by Jermaine. The project seemed like a self promotion tool for the other brothers to ride on Mike's coattails to get people to listen but do the turn about to jumpstart the others solo careers. That type of mentality is never good for a creative work like an album. That's why I rate it so low. [Edited 2/1/06 8:11am]

I bought this album back in the day.Anybody remember the cheesy video to Torture? I believed they used an actual dummy of Michael in the video, apparently he wasn't available for the shoot ! I remember a local radio station KISS FM, had the smart idea to play the song State of Shock 24 hours straight.I hated that song after they did that.

Great cover, decent album. The Hurt and One More Chance are the standout tracks, i like 'Be not Always' a lot too. very dark tone to it, definately a song to commit suicide to (If you're feeling that way out). i always liked 'Victory' (i forgive it's shortcomings i.e. hardly any Michael), i don't and never will like Tito's track though, that's just rubbish!
P.S. I'm surprised this is the best selling 'Jacksons' album, woulda thought 'Destiny' or 'Triumph' sold more. i heard 7m and 5m respectively before, i'm sure.

The cover is awesome, but I still think the album would have faired better as an EP. Instead, it was an album full of filler with a few "okay" songs. Or perhaps..."The Best Of The Jacksons" with those as new songs. Funny thing is..Michael had his first compilation planned after Bad, it was to be called "Decade." However, the project got switched out to becoming an album of all new material called, "Dangerous." However, the thing is, "Decade" was planned to include "State Of Shock." Maybe Michael would have re-recorded it as a solo track. That would have been awesome IMO! [Edited 2/1/06 12:16pm]

You don't like the other Jackson brothers? I think Jackie, Randy, and Jermaine were underrated as singers.

You don't like the other Jackson brothers? I think Jackie, Randy, and Jermaine were underrated as singers. I don't think it is a matter of taste, it just didn't have a group feel to it. I mean it was like each of the brothers just gave 2-3 solo songs.

Well yeah, thats evident just watching the Body video. Michael isn't present but, Marlons mannerisms are very Michael like and he even does Michaels signature kick. They all appeared to be riding Michaels coat tails in that video. And I LIKE the brothers, it's just that none of them could ever be Michael.

The problem with the album is that there are only two great singers in the Jackson family: Michael and Jermaine, the other brother's should have done what they do best: play instruments, produce, compose
