He's an amazing artist, I'm just burned out on his stuff. If you dig Dali, definitely check out Giorgio DeChirco and Max Ernst. You may be suprised...

I think Dali's early stuff is the dogs bollocks when surrealism was in its infancy, but he became a pretentious materialist in his later works.

I like Salvador. I've not seen a whole lot of his work.
I bought myself a copy of "Persistence of Memory" for my birthday and hung it my room. I find some of his stuff interesting. -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..."

Salvador Dali's mind was truly a unique make... . I have studied many "Masters" and they are all have their individual purpose (like most artist's ) for the need of personal expression. Henri Matisse is among my most appreciated... his work inspires me to no ends...

My favourite Dali is 'the Great Masturbator'. Freespirit said Henri Matisse is among my most appreciated... his work inspires me to no ends...
The only trouble with "Jazz" and similar 'cut out' era Matisse is that every half-assed 'commercial artist' has imitated it to death. Now, 'The Dance'... that is the shit! And his erotic drawings... very nasty!

The best. I've been to The Dali Museum in St. Petersburgh 5 times; to "worship", if you will.
I look at his work to remind myself of how good I am NOT, and how far I have to go. Incomparable.

"I AM a drug" - in response to the question: "Do you use drugs?" ...I am not one of those beings who when they smile are apt to expose remnants, however small, of horrible and degrading spinach clinging to their teeth. This is not because I brush my teeth better than others; it is due to the much more categoricial fact that I do not eat spinach." - from "The Secret Life of Salvador Dali"

When he met Cher he gave her a vibrating fish and told her to put it on her clitoris. This makes me think that Salvador Dali was a *freak* lol

Yeah Dali was cool an all, but he admitted himself he couldn't understand Kant. How embarrassing is that? What a loser!

And his erotic drawings... very nasty! You think Matisse's drawings are "Nasty"..."Very Nasty"... I think they are done with much taste , all my pictures throughout my home is a Matisse Print... nudity and all. "The Joy of Life" is among my most prized...it's in the Living Room. And the way he admired a woman's form...well...... Matisse said of one model, "She was a pretty girl, a perfect model. I touched her body, my hands enveloped her forms, and I transmitted into clay the equivalent of my sensation." Also... (I have many... ),"My models, human figures, are never just extras' in an interior", her said. "They are the principal theme in my work. I depend entirely on my model, whom I observe at liberty, and then I decide on the pose which best suits her nature...The emotional interest aroused in me by them does not appear particularly in the representation of their bodies, but often rather in the lines or the special values distributed over the whole canvas or paper, which form its complete orchestration, its architecture... It is perhaps sublimated sensual pleasure, which may not yet be perceived by everyone." Sorry... I just had to...(smile), narcotizedmind... your mention inspired me to reflect on why I love Matisse and his work sooo much... Thanks! And the Dance is amazing... like all else he has created.

Freespirit, I agree ABSOLUTELY. Matisse's sensuality is Mind Boggling!! Please don't take anything I say seriously (I'd LOVE a copy of Jazz, but I'm just a Po Boy).

Then what do you say about Yves Tanguy? You've probobly never even heard of him! Check it out: http://www.ibiblio.org/wm...bility.jpg http://apascal.free.fr/im...bsence.jpg http://apascal.free.fr/im...EtLair.jpg Dali is good to reproduce for posters, but I think Yves Tanguy was an equally talented artist. Dali is good to reproduce for posters, but if you look in person it's clear. Dali was not a "genius" because he did not start the surealist movement or "incomparable", but most people blindly associate him as the only surrealist. Shame. ==========================

I agree, Dali didnt start the Surrealist movement, Andre Breton did with his surrealism manifesto in 1924, Dali is the most well known artist of the movement and i dont think people like Max Ernst, Rene Magritte or Miro should be overlooked. In fact Dali was criticised by Breton who accused him of commercial excesses etc. Surrealism began as a literary movement and has it's roots embedded in Dadaism.
