"In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts," he says. "You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?"

I feel you on that Kanye....but not the Jesus thing

What's wrong with Kanye is that with attempted controversies, you're supposed to do the thing and wait for the outrage first before defending/explaining it. He just knows exactly what he's doing and bursts out swinging at everything all at once. I can't react to it in any way other than a huge yawn.

Hey, the guy can be a narcissistic jerk...and he comes out of his face with some of the most ridiculous quotes of all time...But since when was it in the rock n roll rule book that said our music personalities must show humility? Give me a fucking break...You mean to tell me that Kiss' Gene Simmons, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Little Richard, Oasis, Miles Davis, David Bowie ect, ect...have shown nothing but humility throughout their careers? Kanye aint doing nothing but getting his "rock star" on...it's funny how when someone outside of the hip-hop circle flexes their "I'm-the-shit-and-deal-with-it" muscle they are lauded for their confidence and fearless spirit...It's a photo shoot for God's sake. It's show business.....As for the Kanye album, it was generally a critically lauded release across-the-board...the man had his hands in everything this year from the Common album to John Legend...I think he had a banner year...and yeah, he's still an asshole, but so what...He's a recording artist, not a philosopher....

Thanks Light...and just to add on to this shit, it's not that I give a pass to all self-loving, asshole music artists...There are some names out there that piss me off...As much as I dug say 50 Cent, when he came out of the gates with his debut album and shook up the pedestrian radio rap scene that was becoming boring as shit, I am more offended by him nowadays than I am of Kanye West...When asked about his thoughts of George Bush's policies 50 commented, "I identify with Bush...i don't think Kanye should have made those statements..." To me that's more offensive than anything Kanye has ever said...

Cool...you don't like the man...But I challenge you to listen to the entire album...Judging an album on one radio single, designed to get spins, is kind of silly don't you think? Just asking....If you don't like the album after that, then I can respect the hate...And I think the changing music thing comes more from the fact that West had his hand in two other releases that made noise critically and commercially in 2005 (Common's Be and and John Legend's release)...that's all...

Why dofolks assume I haven't listened to the album? lol

Seriously, someone bought me both. The shit is goofy. lol

Kanye may have had a hand in Common's and Legend's CD but the talent comes from them. Common has always consistently had great albums, in my opinion.

Great points...But I think Kanye had more of hand at Common and Legend's success than you realize since they are both produced by the man...Not taking anything away from their talents because I've been riding with Common since the UnAmerican Caravan days....But I respect your opinion on the musical side of things...What i don't get is why you feel Kanye's lack of humility is a valid reason to hate the man...That was your original thesis of your comments I believe...To me it's just some rock n roll shit...

I do know Kanye produced them both. wink If Kanye is responsible for bringing Com to the masses then that's cool. He told some of us something we already knew.

My ex-boyfriend had me listen to the entire album after I said I thought Kanye's singles were boring. I gave it a fair chance, and now I can honestly say Kanye's entire album is shit. Sometimes the singles really are indicative of the quality (in this case, lack of) of an album.

Prince has a huge ego with the talent to back it up though.

Kanye can say average rhymes over a sample. When I see his ass pick up an instrument or twelve, I'll give him his.

don't get me wrong, Kanye is an a-hole but he doesn't talk about how many times he got shot, how many cars he owns, how many houses he has in different countries, and to my knowledge, doesn't diss other artists in his songs...

if i had a choice of Kanye over those other losers, Kanye gets my vote most definitely...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't think Kanye is talentless. shrug I think he's good at what he does.

So you only like ppl who can play an instrument? I think Kanye is a good producer. I'll give him that and Prince has had some bs that sometimes he needed to check his ego at the door as well.

Howard Stern did the same cover over a decade ago...and for Rolling Stone but they refused to use it. I remeber seeing it a while ago and it looks just like Kanye's. He might have some talent, but if anyone wants to rag on Madonna for manipulating the media in order to sell albums....She has nothing on Kanye! At least Madonna is interesting.....Kanye just comes up with shit to get attention!
