Lewis Taylor hitting America!

For those of you who are on to the secret that is Britain's best, Lewis Taylor, I've just got a newsletter that says he'll be in America later this year. All you New Yorkers who love good music really should try to make it if you can!

Positively Beautiful, The News

First of all, an apology from me (loz) for the lack of newsletters over the last year. Personal stuff got in the way, but I'll do my best not to let anything else interfere, from here on out. Read on with all haste, Lewis fan... lots is happening right now (this is late, late!), has been happening, & will be happening later this month. The main thing to know at this moment is that Lewis and band are appearing at the Jazz Cafe in London (Camden) over the next four days - January 10, 11, 12 & 13. - and that Lewis is making his first-ever appearances in America later this month! Not only is Lewis doing his first-ever American gig in New York on January 26, but he'll be appearing with the band on the Late Night With Conan O'Brien show on January 27. Must-see TV!

Must-have Lewis CDs:

Lewis Taylor (1996) and his latest CD, which has been released in the USA, Stoned.

Anyway, here's an update for those of you in NY who may be interested in seeing Lewis Taylor live (his first US gig as far as I know):

He's appearing at the Bowery Ballroom next Thursday, January 26 (doors open 8pm)

Nah, not even close. There are waaay more than 2 folks on here that have heard of Lewis. There have been a few threads already written about Lewis on this site. pyskosoul and paligap really deserves the credit for hipping folks to Lewis on this site. I now own Taylor's cds cuz of this. The cat's cool. I posted long time ago that although I like his studio joints, I would wait on my full blown praise AFTER I've seen him live. Many can throw down in a studio, but not so many can throw down live. The true greats can slang both. I WILL be checking him out live if he steps foot on Cali soil.

I'm with you on this one, dude....

I'll reserve my opinion of Taylor after I've seen him live. But I enjoy his albums as well.

U were at Jazz Cafe? I went on the Friday. He seems a lot more content, happier and comfortable than recent times and it shows in his performances!

10 years, still underrated but still legendary! Can't knock this guy at all!

Yes I was there. Usually I try to at least go a couple of nights but this year I could only make the Tuesday.

I agree with you Dre. He was relaxed and I thought his band were the best he's had. I love the guy ... I really hope the gig in NY goes well for him - he deserves some recognition now.

Best gig I've seen him do btw. I always love seeing him live but this band really gels well. Missed Dave Ital though.

I dream the better dream is a great track too. I think it was a flip-side to a cut of "lucky".
He also does a great version of "New York" in his own style which proves that he could've done big band if he wanted to as well! Ridiculously talented nod

The Limited Edition 2004 is my fave album for sure!

Dave Ital's a dude! One of my first partners was his singing teacher and he was fronting a band called "Fat Freddy's Cat"! He used 2 reside in South-East London around the corner from my good self! Still see him around the neighbourhood and we chat at times.
Is it me or does LT's Bass player look like sumthin' outtat the Doobie Brothers? biggrin what's his brother Matt up2... the mind wonders...

I miss Dave Ital's tight trousers biggrin What's he up to now?

.... and no it's not just you lol - I know exactly what you're saying.

I loved this band.

Did you see him at his previous Jazz Cafe gigs or at Ronnie Scotts all those years ago? I didn't have a ticket for Ronnie Scotts but managed to blag my way onto the guest list due to desperation. I think the band he has now is definately the best I've seen so far, Dave Ital excepted.

Or you can consider...

If you go with the "trench coat method", be sure and keep your arms outstretched in front of you in a perfect X/Y (110 degrees) micing pattern. geek
