LOS ANGELES (AP) - Former teen idol Leif Garrett was charged Wednesday with possessing heroin after he was arrested for allegedly trying to ride the subway without a ticket. Garrett, 44, also was charged with fare evasion. He was held without bail for allegedly violating terms of his probation for a previous drug offence. He pleaded guilty in March to attempted possession of cocaine-based narcotics and was placed on probation. An e-mail seeking comment from a spokeswoman listed on Garrett's website wasn't immediately returned. Garrett was arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies Saturday evening on the platform of the Pershing Square Red Line station downtown for allegedly not having a ticket to ride the train. Deputies then allegedly found suspected narcotics on the musician-actor, officials said. If convicted, Garrett probably would avoid jail time under a law that sends some convicted drug users to treatment, authorities said. Garrett has appeared in three dozen films, mostly in the 1970s and 1980s, and has released 10 albums. In 1979, he rear-ended another car while driving a Porsche, leaving his passenger disabled. ©The Canadian Press, 2006

Leif was probably the most popular teen idol from the mid to late 70's. I remember when I was little, seeing him EVERYWHERE. His Behind The Music STILL was the most watched episode of the series. I seen Leif with his band a few years ago at the Viper Room in Hollywood. The place was jammed packed. Good show. Too bad to see this flare up again. That guy was so zipped. Let me tell you watching Behind the Music you could tell when he meets the guy in the wheelchair that he handicapped. Such bad melodramatic tv though and what a spectacle this guy is... that is if someone really did care. Too Late Behind the Music was close to 10 years ago. He missed his small window to capitalize it. Remember his band? I rest my case... | |
