Madonna vs. Like A Virgin

which one do you like better?

can't decide...i LOVE Nile Rogers' production on LAV but I think the songwriting was overall stronger on Madonna. plus "burning up" is my all time fave madge song. whatcha all think?

Hands down the Madonna CD. A non-stop party from start to finish. LAV isn't bad but it has some stinkers on it.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Madonna... more consistent album. LaV has some real clunkers

Madonna. Holiday, Borderline, Burning Up and Everybody make it for me. Like A Virgin was more contrived, she was trying to make a massive selling album and so chose other peoples songs that had mass pop appeal. Madonna was songs she'd written before the record deal, and songs that came through DJ's and stuff, and in that respect feels more innocent.

I think both records have their gems and their low points, and if Into The Groove and Crazy For You had been on LAV it would be no contest, but for purely representing what madonna was about, "Madonna" is my choice. Innocent, dance floor, exuberant pop crossover music. It is the blue print of what she would do for years to come (although on Like A Virgin and True Blue she strangely didnt), taking whats happening in the clubs to the mainstream.

im going to have to say 'like a virgin'. 'madonna' is more consistent, but the songs on 'like a virgin' that i love, i really really love and i think are amazing tracks. whereas all the songs on madonna are just good to me. but it is a really close competition

Madonna, as Like a Virgin sounds much more dated today. There are songs on Madonna that still sound fresh in 2006. Plus, Borderline and Lucky Star are better than anything on Like a Virgin (including Angel, Stay, and Dress You Up).

LAV is a great follow up with stronger material I think. There are more inflections and song changes within the songs. It's certainly more complex. There is no denying that Madonna is more consistant...but LAV is pushing it forward.

There's nothing on Madonna that is like Love Don't Live Here Anymore.
