if i like obscure stuff, it's because someone has turned me on to it or because it's something i read about or checked out in a wrecka stow...i don't have any investment in being seen as someone who listens to music that nobody else knows about, nor do i think music loses value with popularity.

unfortunately, i live in a city with a music scene that prizes obscurity as a form of credibility. music snobs abound in chicago.

You probably think of yourself as a snob, and are to some degree but believe me, there are snobbier snobs out there. And they will eat you alive. Be content to stay away from pop music and listen to whatever you like, just don't brag too much about being a music snob, it could be dangerous.



I try to repsect other's taste in music. I might say something to the extent of "they suck" joking around, but I would never make a big deal out of a person's taste in music. It's just music.
