Best SINGER in music today???

Best singer in today's pop/rock/R&B music is....HOWARD HEWETT!!!

From the early Shalamar days to now, he has one of the most lively and soulful voices in tha game. There arent many in the biz, that could hang with him in a TRUE singing competition. Anyone disagree?? I would like to hear from you guys, if you think he could be dethroned. Betcha cant!!

Jody Watley and Jeffery Daniels were good, but Howard MADE Shalamar.

Today? Howard isn't around much these days. He was good in his day, but he's not much of a force in 2005/6

What have those two "has beens" done in the last 5 years? Lets See.....(1) playing with the neighborhood kids, and (2) playing with the neighborhood guys, in a public bathroom. In their day, both were at the top of the game, but now..neither could hold weight in a spitting contest. Leave Mike's jock alone, he's done!!! When is the last time he sang something live without lip-synching it?

Howard still tours and does guest appearances on people's (mostly jazz) projects. I'm not talking about popular on the radio, I'm talking about the ability to sing. Howard is a church singer, there's not many of those around anymore, in this "electronic" age.

This is all really a subjective thing..I mean Michael and George are the "best singers" in my book..but that is because I LOOOOVE both their voices.

*dyin* R. Kelly!

Only thing pisses me off more about Bobby Valentino than those shitty ass identical first singles is the album photo with him in front of a sign that says "Real R&B Singers Wanted". WTF? Who the fuck is Bobby Valentino to be talkin about real R&B?

Howard is one of my all time favorite vocalist and think he has been underrated as a vocalist, but I wouldn't necessarily classify him as a vocalist of "today".

As far as vocalist in my "today" category, I would say:

Maxwell
Jill Scott
Tonex (actually there are a number of Gospel Artist I could list)
Faith Evans
Kelly Price ( who is actually now a member of my church here in Houston)
Kelly Clarkson
Donnie
Eric Benet
Fantasia ( although I think she can sing, I think she goes Overboard TOO much)

Honorable mention, vocally I also enjoy:

Lil Mo' (not a fan of some of her songs but I enjoy her voice)

Tweet (techically speaking I love her voice. Sometimes I think other things such as image and lyrical content actually overshadow the fact that this woman has a beautiful voice)

Usher ( I think at times people sorta brush him off because of the huge commercial success he has and also are distracted by his abs and his dancing and his love live, but compared to a lot of male singers out there TODAY, Usher has vocal ability that I enjoy.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Tweet is amazing. And she has one of those voices where even if she was ugly (but she's hot) I'd still wanna get with her when I heard her sing. It's weird.

OMG!! I forgot about Kelly!! Kelly can BLOW!! I'd buy ANYTHING she'd sing. Gospel, Pop, Rock, Jazz. I LOVE her voice. She's like the new ReRe.

Jesse Powell is an excellent singer, but he hasn't had the greatest material recently.

His debut cd and his third cd were his strongest in my opinion.

There`s many good singers, but vocally, Gladys Knight gets my vote.
She`s a pioneer, a living legend, and after all these years she still sounds amazing.
